End Game Comments
So I got a character close to the end game, saved the lady in the unremarkable cave. I cheated though...I died the first time opening the wrong door to the pet dragons in the armory. That was fun...open door BAM, you're dead. Neat reward in there but probably won't be opening that door again. As an archmage I needed to take advantage of my dig spell more to open things from a distance. After that I decided to keep going to see what everyone was talking about.
When I was in Mount Doom I accidentally damaged a Sun Paladin with a spell which turned them all against me and made the level unplayable. Need to be more careful in the future. Now the real issue with the Sun Paladins turning against me is that it looks like Aeryn died on the portal back to middle earth (She was gone anyway and there was a pile of stuff on the portal) and I'm assuming it was because she was hunting me. Anyway, she was gone the jeweler was attacking me and the guy that made the portal was surrounded in red and mad at me. I killed the jeweler and the guy that made the portal for me. This puts a serious crimp on the end game. I've destroyed the prides and now need to speak to Aeryn to start the next quest and I've found the ancient tome but there's no one to give it to.
Anyway, great, great game. I love it! Going to hopefully waste another bunch of hours of my life getting another character that far and not insulting the Paladins.

Re: End Game Comments
At least in beta 11 you did not actually need to talk to Aeryn in order to continue to the next dungeon. If you still have your character and all four orbs then head to the slime tunnels at the bottom of the Grushnak pride.
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended

Ah...at the bottom of the pride? Gotcha, just didn't know where the entrance was...I'll give it a try.

I have a similar problem. I cleared Mount Doom, and got the 4 orbs.
And the sun paladins are also mad at me. No way to talk to them....
I went to the slime tunnel, destroyed all the slimes and I am in front of a large door that I cannot open.
The sequel is unimplemented or am I missing something?

Re: End Game Comments
There are 4 spots distributed over the slime caves that supposedly are pedestals.
I'm not sure if mouseover reveals that, but they DO look markedly different from floor tiles.

Mouse over/'l'ook will say they are pedestral and of what type

Re: End Game Comments
The tool tips were in beta 11 but you had to be about 3 tiles above/below them for it to show.

Re: End Game Comments
I finally succeded to enter the high peak. Great great dungeon, indeed. (And great great great game!!!)
Some thoughs on the final level.
There is a small bug in the initial dialog. It looped identically 3 times before to close.
I completed Mount Doom, and Aeryn appeared saying she was going to help me. Anyway, she was hostile, as were all the sun paladins I encoutered in the recent times... Dunno why. Very strange, but it seems that it also happened to other players.
Nevertheless she preferred to attack the wizards than me, and I succeeded to get rid of Pallando (thanks to stone prison). I also had to suppress Aeryn, as she turned on me after the kill of the wizard.
And when the stone wall cumbled, Alatar just instakilled me in the first manathrust that he casted
. Much much too powerful, IMHO. I was level 48, with almost 1400 HP and a boss that can kill you in a single spell, in an area with almost no place to hide, is virtually impossible to defeat.

Re: End Game Comments
Did you perchance play an undead and not wear your special cloak?
Re: End Game Comments
Also manathrust even a crit does not do 1400 damage, you probably took a freeze followed by other spells, but then, you got to the very end boss of the game without stun immunity, you wanted to die

Re: End Game Comments
Are you sure that stun immunity prevents freezing?

I was an undead and I was not wearing the special cloak. Does it make the sun paladin hostile?
Concerning stun, I had stun immunity with an armor of stability and a chant or an hymn that I got from a quest. But anyway, I am absolutely certain that I was not stunned. Unfortunately I did not kept the message log (BTW, is there a way to do that?), but I remember for sure that I was just instakilled by the very first spell of the wizard. Indeed that surprised me after. My manathrust did at most 700 or 800 damage, with most relevant talents maxed, a level 48 char, a magic of 108 and a spell power close to 200... And I did heal just before the fight and I had something like 1380 HP.
