I just downloaded beta9 and started it up with my favorite character, a fighter. My first turn I was mobbed by insect swarm, troll, and a rat. The troll dropped the boots of Tom Bombadil! I think I'll enjoy playing this character.

EDIT: He was the luckiest unlucky guy ever. He died to snake mobs.

Bonus to various cunning skills I think, I didn't really pay too much attention since it was really of no use to my fighter.

It activates for *speed* which is really useful to a fighter (or basically anyone else). Of course then you have to get it recharged.

actually, I am pretty sure that most (if not all) artifacts regen their power over time, charged items do not.

Yeah, I think that all artifacts recharge slowly.
