Resisting Confusion

#1 Post by budswell »

Is there anything which can help me not get confused by 'h's. Or do I just want anything which help my "Magical Resistance". Losing a lot of lives to them, so have given up on what's under the lake. Currently a level 7 archmage, so will go hit the maze. But not sure where to go after that - always seem to die in the sandhole

Various equipment and talents. The Anorithil's Hymn of Perseverance (you can get it from a random escort quest) is 30% at (raw) talent level 1, and 85% at (raw) talent level 5. There's a common amulet that gives another 15%. Not sure what else....

Confusion is actually affected by Mental Saves, not Magical Saves.

Actually, confusion, like all status inflictions, are saved by the means that caused it. If a physical assault confused you, you need physical confusion, if it were magic, you need magical save, if it was a mental attack, mental save.

Not quite.

It really depends on the ability and the effect (and by effect I'm referring to how the thing happened).

The Anorithil confusion for instance is a mental save but it uses spellpower to determine hit. It's a mental cry that shatters the minds of your opponents, mental save. That mental cry is technically caused by a spell though but the effect is still mental.

In other words, it really depends on the damage type and who codes it and what their take on the effect is.

So far though, all confusion damage types are resisted with mental save. I could easily see a physical confusion being added though (getting hit to hard on the head, sounds like a physical save to me).

I will attempt to be explicit and comprehensive. Searching for "EFF_CONFUSED" in the tome folder finds the CONFUSION and RANDOM_CONFUSION damage types, the torment ego and the Golden Three-Edged Sword 'The Truth'. The damage types both depend on mental saves, and the later two both depend on physical saves. All of the talents that cause confusion do so with the CONFUSION damage type, so that is a mental save. I think that is it. :D

Well, I have at least found a survival strategy. While most of my runes/infusions do not work when confused, wands of teleport do appear to. So my ash wand of teleport is now my first port of call when confused and it looks to risky to wait it out.

Bugger about mental saves, my spell save is 63 but my mental save is only 17. Thanks for the info though

No problem, and I think beta19 introduces a change where zero-energy infusions/runes can be activated regardless of confusion so any Wild infusions that cure confusion can help again. :D

Glory of the Pride, probably the finest of all rings for physical damage characters, gives 100% confusion resistance. That's usually what I rely on if I'm not playing a class that has passives/auras granting confusion resist. Of course, it's usually not found till much farming is done.
