Stats question & escort quests/talents

#1 Post by morik »

If you have maxed a given stat for your current level, and then you complete an escort quest and choose stats, or you have a talent that increases a stat (e.g., skeleton's generic talent), what happens? Does the bonus get lost? Does it add on anyway?

If you use the skeleton talent to get +6 str, does that mean you are 6 closer to max? Or do points from talents not count towards max? Same question with escort quests.

Thanks!

Escort rewards should be fine (in beta 13 I had a dwarf berserker with 66 base strength, 60 + 6 from escort quests).

For the skeleton talent, from what I understand:

You should wait with filling that up, until you have reached your natural stat max by other means.
That way, you can use the talent to raise the stats above that max.

If you put point into the talent before that, it's like you said, they will just get you closer to the max.

On the other hand, getting the extra stat points early does give you a decent advantage in the early game.

As for as I know, all stat increases are independent and there is NO max. There's a cap in the amount of 'level up' points that can be used on each stat, but other than this it's pretty much free for all.

You can only have a natural maximum of 60 in the 6 core stats.

Okay, so to get back to the original question, how does that limit of 60 interact with things like escort quests and the skeleton talent?

Well, and its a moving cap as well.

At level 7 for example, I believe the cap is 26.

It would be nice if bonuses from sources other than level-up were consistent, whether added before hitting the cap or not.

(I.e., if the check for the cap could just check level up points, instead of total points)

The stat points from levels, skeleton and ghoul talents all directly modify the stat, which has a level-dependent maximum (60 at lvl 50). The escort rewards and various equipment increase the inc_stats table, which is added to the base stats and have no limit. So the OP answer is: it adds anyway.

If the skeleton/ghoul talents increase the stats above the max that is a bug, and please report it. Cheers!

So if you grab the talents while already at max-for-level, those stat points are just gone? Seems like a bit of a newbie trap.
