crazy gem book

Ok, so my first ever character to make it really far is still alive and kicking. I'm using PT/inferno cheese, but i'm still pretty proud of myself, as I came up with the idea on my own and i'm pretty much a roguelike noob. I gotta say it's pretty fun dancing around a dungeon with PT.

Anyways i'm in Rak'Shor pride and I beat the boss. He drops this sweet book that has something to do with gems, so I take it to the gem guy, and he tells me about this lake in the mountains. I go there and my display driver quits on me...

I boot up T4 again only to find that I'm back at level one of Rak'Shor pride. No problem, I can do this again. Lots of empty buildings and PT makes it easy (cept for the dreads etc). When Rak'Shor drops, I collect everything and go back to town. There is no book in my inventory. Was it a random drop? Can I still get it from somewhere else? I'm dying to know what crazy ring he would have made me.

Yes the book is a random drop in the east.

SPOILER: It's a normal artifact that can drop and has 20% chance on all pride bosses plus some others
