shameless spoiler request: im trying to unlock the cryo/pyromancers with my current character before upgrading to beta9.... i've stumbled around vor pride quite a bit, killing high mancers in hopes to unlock... do they only unlock with a percentage when you kill the boss?

Others that have actually unlocked it can chime in, but some source diving shows that the unlocks for the two classes are separate, not linked to any specific monster, only possible in the Vor Pride and are rare. Good luck!

I haven't unlocked them, but it says on the wiki you need to read the Tome of Wildfire and the Tome of Uttercold, found in Vor Pride

I don't know where exactly, and DG said they aren't guaranteed to unlock at all.
