beta 4 impressions

#1 Post by Dracophile »

Running an mage. Early on, was interesting to see whether or not I'd be using Arcane Power(more mana or more damage.) Most of the time, I had it on and just rested more. I had been apprehensive about the change, but it seems to work just fine. I've maxed out Arcane Power, Manathrust, Flame, Chain Lightning, Freeze, and Corrosive Vapor. I haven't run into anything that I really can't handle. Arcane Power is on all the time, major damage dealt with Thrust and Flame, area/group damage with Chain and Vapor. Ranged enemies get Frozen first, then blasted. 1-2 pts in Dig, Regen, Heal, Restore, Sense(2), ID, Vision, and Illumination.

Carn Dum wasnt too bad with a mage, but I was glad I had maxed out Health. I do wonder how melee characters will fare against the mobs, both here and in Moria.

The levels in Moria seem to have been shrunk from beta 3; if so, im glad of it, they were difficult to explore completely, to make sure I hadnt missed anything. (I'm a compulsive explorer, I abhor leaving some part of a map unexplored, just in case I missed anything. Good thing too, my 2nd trip into Moria, an orc dropped what i thought was a purple staff, but then I thought . .nah, im just seeing it wrong . . . .ID'd it .. . guess not . . .Staff of Destruction. I'm waiting for the RNG to get me back.) Love the orc mobs in Moria; its a perfect training ground for mages.

The orc ambushes in the East were acceptable for a while, but now have gotten merely annoying.

The spiders in Ardhungol are VERY difficult to see, both in the regular screen and in the mini-map. On purpose?

Last thought - Any hints as to where I should "explore" in the East? I've wandered all over and am a bit tired of being ambushed. I've wandered around the blue-fuzzy mountain, and tried to use a fish amulet to get to the island . .no luck.

yeah, one character of mine found it right off the bat exploring (well, when I wanted to find it), the other it took about 10 ambushes before I found it.

I will group my spoilers by vagueness, so if you want to be more spoilered highlight more:

vague:on some hills

not so vague (I mean, it really almost states where you find it):south of the blue glowing thing over the mountains in the middle, albeit it is about a 7 radius circle so you dont have to search on the hills, but those are a good reference point

when you do find it, do not, I repeat, do not use the mouse to choose, or you may choose wrongly, even if you chose the right one.

I've got the wild wild east quest, and I've been all over the eastern part of the map, checked out the locations you suggested, and nothing. I'm not finding anything, nor am I being ambushed at all. Am I missing something?

The "wild wild east" is where you go after you use what you get after beating the orcs at the bottom of moria. It's a whole new map. Explore in the area suggested and a stairs down appears on the world map, similarly to the Elven Ruins.

*smacks forehead* For some reason, I have a real mental block when it comes to completely obvious things... Thanks!

Not a problem . . .been there myself often.
To whomever suggested "recast Arcane Power each time you put a point in it" . .thank you . . I'd been running lvl 2 since forever lol . . . Level 5 makes killing orcs rather easier.

Is there anything left to do, once one unlocks the Sun Paladins and Anorithils? If so, hint me, please!

Thanks in advance!
