Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.

Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.
So... I go to see Bill the Troll with a level 6 Ogre Reaver and... one of his adds is a level 38 patchwork troll. Needless to say, things go downhill fast.
Should this even be an option? I'm not sure how even an outlying RNG justifies that as an appropriate minion.

There is a warning on going to see Bill, isn't there?
In this case, I think I'd take a nice long vacation elsewhere and come back after Dreadfell or something like that.

I dunno, I kinda agree something went wacky there. Bill is supposed to be a dangerous threat to folks who are at the Tier 1 level, not a dangerous threat to folks past tier 2 (which 38 certainly can be).
Might be good to bug it.

No, it's intended. Patchwork troll has been a possible spawn for versions uncounted. Bill's Lair counts as a vault, so you can get anything from the Forest Troll Hedge Wizard all the way up to a mountain troll thunderer and, yes, a patchwork troll. Sometimes combos of the above, if you're really unlucky. It's entirely possible to escape with your life. Depends on how fast you can run.
Re: Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.
I got a few times 1 shot from Billy because I was playing squishy characters pretty reckless, but I never encountered any unusual (above t1) enemies in the treasure area.
Edit : Karma hits hard. Had a very succesfull run with a staff reaver and went to ol' Billy once I hit lvl 11, dam dam dam, the patchwork troll just waited for me right after killing Bill. Even with the Shalore speed buff I couln't outrun him since he dazed/stunned/whatsoevered me. RIP Moonlight. I think I'm done today with this game.

Re: Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.
Interestingly, the last time I played a reaver ogre I *also* got the patchwork troll at Bill's. I managed to run away. Probably a coincidence, but it does seem strange...
Re: Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.
Additional issue... since I made this post, I've apparently been cursed with irony, because that stupid Patchwork Troll seems to spawn something like 50% of my characters now.
Seriously, I'm level 5 and he has 1800+ hp.

Learning that you don't have to kill everything when you first see it is an important lesson.

Eh. I think there's a difference between knowing to run and just being enormously outgunned, Housepet. Not sure why he couldn't run, but even vaults really shouldn't have things 4* the area level, I'd think. I know I had one run with a thunderer outside the castle vault that basically blocked the way forward through forest, which is pretty main-path for that stuff.Even with the Shalore speed buff I couln't outrun him since he dazed/stunned/whatsoevered me. RIP Moonlight. I think I'm done today with this game.
Heck, the situation this whole thread is about is basically: We screwed up a boss character encounter. Instead of Bill being the awesome fight with his supports, bill is a tiny mook alongside patchwork troll. That we have a whole bunch of little event notifiers warning you of him seems even siller with that going on.
Sure, its been there forever, and sure, vaults are vaults... but is it really a good thing that Bill gets overshone by a random mob? I mean, if random challenge is supposed to be the sign there...why isn't Bill the one getting boosted rather than a super-add?

Re: Level 38 Patchwork Troll hanging out with Bill.
Because its a completely random occurrence, its not designed to happen.
Its an inherent downside of level scaling randomly generated encounters.
It could be removed. But I'm not sure that it improves the player experience to hold their hand all the time.
Sure with people trying to kill Bill straight after finishing Trollmire and nowhere else, the numbers seem extreme, but what about all the other places where OOD monsters appear?

Well, we all like the randomness of loot in this game. Monsters follow the same pattern. It's part of the game and we all love it.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.

I love it when I encounter a high level melee creature and play something like a summoner or Solipsist. The experience granted is really nice and smoothens out the tougher ranged enemies you'll meet later on. As melee however, run.
