Antimagic + Superpower = worth it?

#1 Post by ggspot000 »

Playing Dwarf Berserker, wondering if taking Superpower prodigy at level 30 is worth it. What does "+30% willpower modifier" mean?

See your weapons? See how they have a "120% Strength" or "45% Strength and 45% Dexterity" on there? That's the stats used to determine damage. Superpower adds 30% Willpower to that.

The formula for determining damage is "dam = 0.3 * (phys_power + totstat) * power * talented_mod". Totstat is where this would apply, so with a high Willpower you get a pretty big bonus. That being said, consider Flexible Combat. It's probably gonna get you more damage and you get glove procs, which are fantastic.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

It hasn't worked yet.

Superpower is probably fine for you, since you're going for Str and Will, but it's mostly going to be a bit more damage on top of your already quite good damage. Not very exciting to me.

Some other good options are:

Spell Feedback will help you against most of the worst foes in the game.

Giant Leap solves some of your mobility problems, and it's a decent attack as well.

Steamroller is a game-changer in that you can play a rather different style, using Rush to cross the battlefield multiple times per combat.

Swap out gear and raise one of your other stats to 50, to see what else you could pick. You'll get to keep the talent even after you swap back your gear to normal.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

Word of warning on Steamroller-if you have trouble with bosses, it won't be a particularly good investment. It relies too heavily on getting kills, and when fighting a boss, you won't be getting a kill till the boss himself is dead. (Excepting the Master and summoner rares.)

That being said, it's fun to be a Steamroller. If you aren't worried about bosses, it's a very fun investment, even if it's not the best from a power point of view.

Thanks for the replies, I missed them when I was playing because I wasn't sure my post was approved (was taking quite long) so I stopped checking the forum.

I did go on to win Tome 4 with this guy, my first win in a roguelike! Made me very happy. The last fight was hellish and left me one step away from death. The two prodigies I ended up choosing were the "I can carry the world" and "superpower".

Anyway, thanks again and thank you darkgod for this awesome game. I hope to come back to Tome 4 at some point again in the future.
