Dreaming Horror Dreamscape thingy
Can someone explain the mechanics of the dreamscape or whatever it is that dreaming horrors pull you into? I couldn't make any sense of it.
I didn't know what objects onscreen I was controlling, what I was allowed to do, or anything.
My first encounter. Somehow I managed to exit that screen and be close enough to one to kill it before it could pull me into that again. Dumb luck I guess.

Basically, you can't do anything. I believe some abilities work even though they shouldn't, but you're basically helpless. Your clones show up and try to murder the horror while the horror tries to kill them (with a huge damage increase). Each clone that gets killed deals a lot of damage to you when you wake up.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.
It hasn't worked yet.

1/ You exist along side a bunch of your clones.sxlwa wrote:Can someone explain the mechanics of the dreamscape or whatever it is that dreaming horrors pull you into? I couldn't make any sense of it.

2/ The first thing the Dreaming Horror does is lay down Malestrom which basically immobilizes you unless you can teleport. This is frustrating for a melee character.
3/ The Dreaming Horror then tries to kill you and your clones. For each clone killed, you suffer a cumulative penalty when the Dreamscape ends. This penalty was error prone in 1.2.x and earlier, so it might not actually harm you in any way. This is vastly unintuitive.
4/ Then at some point the Dreamscape ends, and you're free to kill the mo' fo' any way you know how, but you might suffer that cumulative penalty if the code actually behaved correctly. Which might not be often, I dunno.

You are automatically paralysed by Dreamscape.

Unless something's changed, you should be able to take control of your clones by clicking on them. They'll deal 50% damage unless you have lucid dreaming, but you can at least spread them out to avoid taking quite so much AoE damage.
Re: Dreaming Horror Dreamscape thingy
What happens if you manage to kill the horror in the dream?

Re: Dreaming Horror Dreamscape thingy
Thanks for the responses. Which only raise more questions. Like, what ends the dreamscape? What indicates which clone you control? What should you be able to do while in the dreamscape?
I did manage try select one of my clones, I thought, and said clone was not identified as having been affected my maelstrom or any other effect which would prevent movement, but I did not seem to be able to move the clone or use any ability. It could be that I didn't really have him selected? Frankly the interface is kind of inscrutable. It seemed like I just had to wait until the dreamscape ended while I took damage and had no options. "unintuitive" to say the least.....
I don't mind if dreaming horrors are hard but right now the seem kinda broken.

Re: Dreaming Horror Dreamscape thingy
Its just like Fearscape. You end it when the effect ends or the caster is killed.
Unfortunately the interface is a bit vague when it comes to identifying which actor you have control of.

Dreaming horrors are unintuitive, spoilery and awkward but certainly not difficult after you figure them out.sxlwa wrote:I don't mind if dreaming horrors are hard but right now the seem kinda broken.
IIRC Dreaming horros are both
1) generated sleeping so they won't even try to kill you if you don't attack them.
2) immobile.
They may be able to use some kind of teleport, don't remember about that because when I play I 1) either don't pay attention to them at all or 2) corner snipe them out-of-LOS via fireflash etc.
Re: Dreaming Horror Dreamscape thingy
Yes the one I encountered definitely teleported around once it was awake.
I'm still trying to figure out what woke it up too, since I'm a berserker with no AoE that would proc offscreen (and it was offscreen and teleported in). Can it be woken up if it's in the line of fire of another creature and they hit it?
Also, I didn't have any other enemies onscreen before I was transported into the dreamscape - but if I had, is other combat is on hold? I would assume so but it's not clear.

The other combat is on hold.
The entire Dreamscape battle happens instantly.

Then he dies for real!Red wrote:What happens if you manage to kill the horror in the dream?
Note that any status effects you have on you when you first get Dreamscaped will carry over into the Dreamscape, and your clones will also have these effects. This could be bad, or it could be awesome--for instance, being Dreamscaped while Rampaging as a Cursed will result in the dreaming horror being swamped by multiple Rampaging copies of yourself.
