Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
After cruising along with my Anorithil (lvl 30 by now, I beat the Master with the help of Lvl 5 Circle of Sanctity without too much problems), I entered Mark of the Spellblaze and somehow managed to get caught in the FearScape by the Grand Corruptor.
So far, I've managed to stay alive for a good number of turns while being unable to beat him (due to his enhanced healing and darkness resistance)
I don't have any experience playing corruptors, I understand that the Fearscape spell will end if his VIM runs out, but is this going happen anytime soon, or does he have an increased pool or enough ways to replenish it? I am asking because I don't have any escape options from FearScape, as far as I can see, and I really don't want to fight him in the Fearscape (which I hate with a passion anyway).
Should I just run and get out of his LOS until the spell ends?

If your healing is up to it, you can just hide.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.
Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
I'll try. With Heroism, Healing Light, Bathe in Light, Barrier, Totality and "The Untouchable" armour I have some healing/damage mitigation potential available. My movement infusion should get me out of LOS. I'll see if it's sufficient.

His Fearscape lasts a long time but if you can't outdamage him, then you can certainly outlast him. I did it on my Yeek Wyrmic winner in Normal difficulty, I ended up not being able to damage him enough but my regenerative abilities and being able to hide allowed me to stay away from him until his Vim went kaput.

Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
It worked. Fast, too. When I checked I found that his VIM was already down to 26. So, I just waited a few turns and we returned from the Fearscape. Without the healing from the flames, with a renewed circle of silence and with the resistance penetration from totality (plus the coronas...) he went down fairly quickly.
Thanks for the advice.

Maybe next time you could try finding some gloves of dispersion before fighting him. Discovering whether or not you can outlast fearscape the hard way is not fun.
Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
Gloves of dispersion? I just looked it up. The wiki says they can be used to activate "Disperse magic", which can be used to remove good/bad magical effects from foes/friends.
Does this mean that Fearscape just counts as a good magical effect on the caster and can be dispersed with a spell?
I did not know that. Makes kind of sense, though, since he obviously needs to sustain the Fearscape-spell.
I'll try to remember that for the next time.

Fearscape is a sustain buff so anything that can knock off a sustain will end the effect and put it on cooldown.Replikant wrote:Gloves of dispersion? I just looked it up. Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
One thing about Fearscape is that it has limited range (I think it's six). As long as you stay that far away from the Grand Corruptor (or any Fearscape user), he will not be able to Fearscape you.
Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
Thanks, that's good to know.
For that particular situation I didn't plan to get that close to him. I was battling some rare elven mage at that point and accidentially stepped into his LOS with some talents on cooldown already (including circle of sanctity).
Anyway, I am currently going up to High Peak (10 levels, seriously?) and am unsure on whether I will survive the last battle to score my first win. The tunnel guardians were comparatively easy except for an Gwelgoroth-wossname-thingy, one of these storm-vortices, who dished out crazy crits.
Shortly before I nearly died when fighting the last Pride-boss, the fighter, who seemed to be completely immune to any of my control-spells (stun, blind, mind-blast, push-back from my circle,...) and I had to escape upstairs a couple of times to heal up and swap equipment around to try another combination. It's really annoying if you simply can't seem to escape from a melee character (whenever I infusion-moved away, he simply caught up again in one turn). Absolutely the closed call so far.
So, any advice for the final battle? Can I shut down the mages with circly of sanctity / silence? Do I need to stay close to my ally (assuming she shows up) and heal her with bathe in light? Should I try to close the portals or can one generally safely ignore them?

Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
Unless your a high damage output class (which you aren't) you should be closing the Invocation Portals.
Status Effects do work on the Final Bosses but note that both have high saves - Argoniel more so and she is also Stun Immune.
As a general strategy - focus on Argoniel first, then take out Elandar.
Don't worry about Aeryn, she's pretty durable - just try to grab some aggro from the Final Bosses so that she doesn't take all the attacks.

I have always hit Elandar first, and I'm interested to know your reasoning for starting with Argoniel.

Re: Need help fighting the Grand Corruptor in the FearScape
Elandar is generally inferior in terms of defending himself compared to the much higher health pool and saves that Argoniel has, but unlike Argoniel he is also capable of restoring his hitpoints, shielding against damage, going invisible, and keeping himself alive. Argoniel as well doesn't do well against numerous hits - so attacking with an array of attacks from Searing Light, Shadow Blast, Corona, Circles, and Hymn of Moonlight will heavily way in to her.MarginalMagus wrote:I have always hit Elandar first, and I'm interested to know your reasoning for starting with Argoniel.
In comparison to each other, Elandar is generally weaker if the player is capable of high burst damage (Rogue, Shadowblade, Marauder, and Skirmisher being notably candidates) or has access to a tactical nuke (Chill of the Tomb on Necromancer or Bombs on Alchemists). However, if the player is more of an Endurance class with generally lower damage or a high number of attacks like the Anorithil class is, then Argoniel generally becomes weaker as she is unable to weather attacks over a long period while the more time Elandar has in a fight, the greater his ability to survive will be.
In a Nutshell - Argoniel is like the Master from Dreadfall, he is threatening but if you repeatedly poke him then he will fall over. Elandar is like the Wierdling Beast, if you can't outdamage his defenses then you will be in for a tougher fight.
