Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
Oozemancer is, far and away, the easiest class in the game. It's almost impossible to screw up an Oozemancer build: You've got two damage types (with respen, naturally), awesome status resistances, crazy defense, excellent summoned meat shields, and Fungus for free after Urkis. They've been nerfed, and they're still ridiculously good.
Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
Hm. Oozemancer, imo, is really - boring, HOWEVER, for the average player, yes, winning with Oozemancer would be the easiest.
It sounds stupid putting it this way but the average player could pick Oozemancer 5 times in a row, and one would be a winner, regardless of skill, talent, experience, or luck at the game. I can't think of another class that can do that.
Y'see, Solipsist is bonafide overpowered, but overpowered doesn't mean straightforward. From what I know the average tome player barely has one win or none at all. Also the average player doesn't have Oozemancer even unlocked or win rates would probably shoot up.
Summoner is GOOD at getting wins, but again, you have to play pretty meticulously or rather, like a bitch.
Paradox Mages are good at winning as well. Damage overpowered? Not really. But their control and escape is overpowered while the damage is just "pretty good" rather than insane.

When I started the thread I had not Oozemanzer nor skeleton unlocked. Like the average Tome player.
So recommending Oozemancer or Temporal to a new player is kind of cruel.
Usually the first unlock you get is Summoner then Archmage. Both are solid class to win apparently... so is Alchemist.
From the three it really depend on what you enjoy when playing.
Summoner plays like a spectator: You watch your summon killing stuff and you retreat. It's kind of boring, but might please a really defensive player.
Archmage is much more active, you have a 3 ray from the get go, so you always have something to throw at mobs without waiting for cool-down. But he's more fragile.
Alchemist is in between: You're watching your golem kills mobs, and you may cast a few spell once in a while. Probably the better equilibrium between survivability and offensive pleasure.
I still have to win Nightmare mode with an Adventurer. I cannot find a combination that fit my way of playing, and overcome the difficulty of the mode.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
Of those you have unlocked initially (Berserker, Bulwark, Archer, Arcane Blade, Rogue, Shadowblade, and Alchemist): I'd have to say that the easiest is probably the Berserker, Archer, or Alchemist. Adding in what I consider early unlockable classes (Archmage, Summoner, and Cursed): The Archmage and Summoner are also good candidates that offer vastly different combat preferences to the list above.
As to which of the 5 classes might be best is probably more of a consideration to what playstyle you enjoy the most, understand best, and can competently play.

Its amazing what the mind can come up with, but it shows talent to make something of it. - Davion Fuxa

This is good advice, although I would argue that Bulwark is just as easy as Berserker, Archer, and Alchemist. Don't even tough the Rogue classes or Arcane Blade for a while, they are very hard to play and they all are pretty bad/awkward early. In my opinion, Archmage is the best class for learning to play ToME since there's so many ways to build it and even though Ice/Storm/Stone suck, Water/Air/Earth are still good. For learning melee, Berserker and Bulwark are both really good.Davion Fuxa wrote:Of those you have unlocked initially (Berserker, Bulwark, Archer, Arcane Blade, Rogue, Shadowblade, and Alchemist): I'd have to say that the easiest is probably the Berserker, Archer, or Alchemist. Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
On normal, imo the easiest class is Sun Paladin (dwarf, thalore or skeleton). Their mediocre offense is not a real problem on normal. Their defenses are just awesome.
Playing as any other class, even strong and supposedly simple ones like corruptor, I find myself in trouble regularly. I make some misplay and suddenly I have low hitpoints, a ton of negative statuses and all my talents are suddenly on cooldown. Sun Paladins survive almost anything, at least on normal. You get away with mistakes more easily.

From a power perspective you're probably correct, but knowing the mechanics and timing of when to use Block means knowing what to expect from a wide variety of foes.bpat wrote:I would argue that Bulwark is just as easy as Berserker, Archer, and Alchemist.
If you ignore Block the class is still excellent, what with Shield Bash and Assault and Step Up, but IMHO it's not as powerful as a Berserker without the damage-doubling of Counterattack.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
To give an example..
While doing Daikara with my current Dwarf Sun Paladin, I decide to open the doors of the giant town. I was only level 18 or so. The moment I open the door, the unique snow giant inside casts fearscape on me. I manage to kill him in the fearscape plane. But then the next disaster strikes: at the moment he dies, I am teleported onto the spot where this unique giant was standing, right in the middle of the pack. I did not have any means of teleportation and I had burned much of my resources in the fearscape fight.
Had this happened to me with any other class, I would have died. But my Sun Paladin survived it.
I really feel that Sun Paladin is the most beginner friendly class there is. Of course there is also Oozemancer, but that one is more difficult to unlock. And hey, I'd rather play a knight in shining armor then some amorpheus ball of slime.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
Opening the door is always instant, no? Wouldn't many classes survive that with the no-teleport restriction? For example, anorithil would drop circles and the unique giant would be silenced.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
Well, I didn't check his abilities, so I didn't notice that he could cast Fearscape until it was too late.
In general I am not using Inspect Creature on every boss I see. There are so many abilities and I have no idea what most of them do, let alone how to counter them. I guess better players do check abilities all the time. But that's the point I wanted to make: Sun Paladins are beginner friendly. You don't have to play optimal, because you will survive almost anything that's thrown at you.
By the way, can't Silence be resisted? The few times I tried Silence on bosses, they seemed to resist it.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
It can but I've not seen anorithils have much problem, perhaps because their silence is stronger and they tend to start critting it by the time they've gone 5/5 in it. The other point is that the silence is followed almost immediately by a blind, so this tends to filter out most of the opponents that you face. Celestials in general are pretty rock solid in terms of healing and status protection so long as you remember to take mental wilds. Bad thing about sunpa is that their sustains get dispelled more easily, and second life has a reaaally long cooldown.grobblewobble wrote:Well, I didn't check his abilities, so I didn't notice that he could cast Fearscape until it was too late.

Re: In your opinion, what the easiest class to win the game?
I have played an archer to the end game, so he was probably my strongest character.
My hobbit rogue (no traps) is the weakest.
This Necromancer with no minions is powerful.
Yesterday I cleaned the ambush with him.
Then I found the Lost Crypt and had no problems at all. (I often die there)
The most remarkably with theese two achievements was that they occured after a lot of drinking.
I was blasted and despite I promised to never play when drunk, I did.
And zoomed unscratched through the ambush and Dark Crypt, so minionless Necro is a good char.

with oozemancer i take crypt at lvl 22-23. 24-25 with solipsist.Tom wrote:I have played an archer to the end game, so he was probably my strongest character.

You cannot encounter Melinda's crypt below level 24.

I got the savior of Melinda achievement at 25 on normal with a Shadow blade (http://te4.org/characters/107887/tome/8 ... f2a96efdc4) . As shadowblade, I never had problem in the Melinda crypt.
So, may be Magic Shadowblade (Illuminate + staff + Stealth) is the easiest class to win. That's the only one I won with.. I stop trying after that (I have an archer in the east, I never bothered continue playing, but he might be a winner too)
Anyway As stated previously the main default of Solipsist and Ooze... Beginner do NOT have them unlocked.
I think the problem with Archmage... Beginner have problem managing mana.
As stated previously the main default of Bulwark ... Beginner may have problem knowing when to block.
Archer and Berserker may encounter problem with Stamina management, but it's less incapacitating that lack of mana for Archmage. My vote go for one of them as easiest class.
And btw the only advantage of ShadowBlade: When you're new to the game , you tend to dispatch your skill point everywhere, trying everything. On another class you may gimp yourself a bit. With SB it's an asset: You're silenced or lack mana, you can use weapon and stamina skills. You're disarmed or lack stamina you can cast spell.
