Psiblade melee class?
What class would you recommend for somebody that wants to get up close and personal with psiblades? I'm trying solipsist, and it's going okay. Mindslayer seemed okay too, but the shield/aura management seemed annoying compared to dream hammering.
Re: Psiblade melee class?
I'd recommend Mindslayer or Oozemancer. Ooze gets a really nifty ranged attack, plus tons of defensive and mobility option, while Mindslayer gets some fairly hefty shields.
<mex> have you heard the good word about archmage?

Wyrmic. I won with a psiblade wyrmic back before it was trainable. It should be even easier now, and you have tons of utility to back it up. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.
Re: Psiblade melee class?
I tried several Mindslayers but never really got into them until a week ago I decided I'm doing it. I did and enjoyed a lot. I gotta now say Mindslayer is one of my top 3 classes when it comes to enjoyment. Also mindstars are mighty fine weapons. Most likely going to do a mindstar something as my next char.
Few pointers that I realized while playing that might help you find your inner Mindslayer that slays minds:
- Spec for Conduit. Spend some points when you can on two auras. Put them on, pop conduit and never bother with auras again.
- Put points on first physical shield and one other that you find you are lacking resist from. Keep both on and don't bother with them anymore.
- Don't bother with generic energy management talents for auras or shields.
Personally I invested one of my lv 1 points on first shield and the next point in that tree somewhere past 30. It wasn't much of a problem to maintain. Think it was the final boss battle that I started at lv 44 when I invested my last points on shields. Sure they would have helped earlier but I could do without them, mostly because I went antimagic and my mindstars gave hefty bonuses to my AM shield. With my future Mindslayers I'm sure to go shields earlier but that just shows you don't necessarily need them to be hard to maintain. Think I spiked my shields twice in the whole game.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
With Mindslayer, do you triple-wield Mindstars? Does Augmentation do anything at that point? And do you bother with points in Focus?
Re: Psiblade melee class?
Here's My winning Mindslayer.
I did spec for Augmentation cause I used a big whacker until I got a third good mindstar. Dunno exactly how the mindstar telekinetic wield gets calculated but a tier5 star with 20ish damage hit harder than any two hander in the game.
Even when using mindstars the STR and Dex bonuses were pretty good for just 5 class points so even though these stats weren't used in hitting with the stars I saw them being useful.
In the endgame I might have not used Focus tree that much, but the early levels I survived only because of Mindlash. The damage on it went sky high when I tele wielded a third star.
With the conduit damage and my crit rating I could Mindlash every turn (the cost increases though) for around 2k damage. I killed high peak bosses in 4 turns from range 9 with it. Still, as a melee slayer I thought it was irreplaceable.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
Mindslayer seems fun, but I've been playing a dream hammer Solipsist to unlock Oozemancer. It's been fun, but Dream Forge seems like a huge waste; I wish I had those points back to dump into Fungus.
But I just unlocked Oozemancer, so I'm going to give that a shot.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
Welp, that was dull. It was also not very melee-oriented - too much reliance on slime spit, and not enough melee survivability.
Gonna try Doomed next.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
Solipsist is very good with psiblades, because they have lots of wil/cun and global speed.
Probably mindslayer too, because he can live without str/dex too, and psiblades is only melee tree he can get.
Wyrmic is more strength-oriented. Rest are ranged.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
Wyrmics are great with mindstars too. Psiblades give you great melee lethality while wyrmic talents are a very useful complement with area damage/debuff. But in that case, the best is to use StarKeep addon that makes breath and most other wyrmic talents scale with willpower instaed of strenght.

I didn't like Doomed much, but after playing my Solipsist more it seems like exactly what I was looking for.

Re: Psiblade melee class?
Adventurer!
For Active you absolutely want mindslayer shields (which come with the third hand slot), for Passive the obvious ones are psiblades, but also grab Finer Energy Manipulations; using Shape Weapon on mindstars make their psiblades supercharged. If you play super cautious you can go the first few levels without psiblades, and instead buy the tree unlocked to save the category point.
After that, grab defensive stuff. Your main stats are Will and Cunning, so Solipsism is a great choice. You'll likely go AM with those stats, but let the AM and fungus tree unlock on their own rather then burn cat points on them. Look at other Will/Cunning classes - psionic, afflicted, and Wilder, to be precise - your main goal is survivability. Your choice of mindstars isn't a biggie early on, but when you hit your first prodigy you absolutely want "Mind" based ones, as your first prodigy WILL be Mental Tyranny. In general, psiblades that've been reshaped and amped up with Mental Tyranny will generally do a TON of damage; you want talents that increase survivability and potentially mobility.
Best of all, you don't take the huge life penalty mindslayers have!

If you want a solid, full-on melee character who uses psiblades, what you're looking for is Cursed. All of your damage is melee, you have definite benefits to running psiblades (skip dex and still have solid accuracy, leave str and crank will, leaving you with very strong will-based skills, and so forth).

Except for Rampage that runs on strength.Sirrocco wrote:If you want a solid, full-on melee character who uses psiblades, what you're looking for is Cursed.
