There is a recent thread about that around here somewhere...

To summarise: You can recall from the stairs on that level and come back later.
Popular method of keeping the Wayist alive uses Archmage and Phase Door/Teleport.

I did it with a Necromancer. I've heard of others doing it with a Summoner. It can be a tough fight to save the Wayist - generally teleporting him away is key.

Yup, I did it with a necromancer as well but you can do it with an archmage or basically anyone with 5/5 phase door.

You just have to keep the 2 parties separated. You can also just snipe at range if you have some ability to hit one without hitting the other at range. (So for instance an alchemist with 5/5
in do not hit friendlies with bombs) can dump bombs at range 11 until he is dead. Or a an arhcmage with arcane eye can place aoe effects in the exact right spot.

Hate to tell you though that mindslayer is a very very hard class to play. It is not a power house by any means (while classes such as the necromancer are)

I actually find Mindslayer to be one of the more powerful classes. I was dealing almost 3000 damage per turn on average by the endgame, and could hit up to 9 enemies with a spiked charged aura for >2000 damage to each of 9(IIRC) enemies. Add the shields, leeches, and extra item slot, and they can be a powerhouse class.

But yes, they can be difficult to get going.

For unlocking Mindslayer, you can try various disables, it doesn't look like he has any immunities, so anything should work.

Mindslayers are pretty average, IMO.

They have great damage potential, but are very narrow in versatility, have resource limitations, and have quite poor durability. And early on, Mindlash, the main draw eventually, is mostly not that special-it has huge scaling upwards but not a lot of base damage, so you're relying on a great basic physical on a -4 Life Mod class for a while, which is sorta wonky.

They really need that damage potential.

Having said that, they are impressively good at making bosses very, very sad, once you hit lategame.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd take Necromancer over them or not, though. They get a spectacular nuke early on, with Summon Minions, and situations tend to reward Minions more and more as the game goes on despite them getting relatively weaker...until the final dungeon, at which point the minions become remarkably close to useless, all of a sudden.

But most of what they have outside of Minions is really, really overpriced spells, and only a couple of them(Rigor Mortis, Forgery of Haze, Vampiric[Which they don't use that well, due to resource issues...]) are really good outside of the context of Necromancer.

Then again, both are perfectly solid, so directly comparing them is probably a waste, given the different playstyles involved.
