crystal focus opinion

All,

I wonder about the popular opinion on when to use the crystal focus. Should I try to find an ash (or better?) white staff or just stick it to the white elm I started with?

Seems like the slightly better white staves are pretty rare and I've dies quite a few times lugging the thing around...

Use it on a vorutun or dragonbone weapon.

Not so sure. If you are tending to get killed a lot early on, then perhaps make a spangly weapon quite early and have more fun while you can. It's rather like hoarding the more powerful healing potions in Angband etc, they can't do much to keep you alive if they are sitting on a shelf back at your house

Don't keep it. By the time you w'll have access to withe voratun weapon you will have much better weapon anyway.

I think for staffs you use it as early as possible as the damage bonus doesnt matter ( I think spellpower stays the same no matter what tier), for weapons you want to hit with you use it on voratum weapons.

I've been buried with the crystal focus too many times. I didn't want to use it with an elm staff and the ash or better are somewhat rare.

I just managed to have one this time. For the record the spellpower went up by 10 or so. Playing an alchemist now so I am interested in hitting with it, albeit from afar.
