Cursed help

#1 Post by medea »

Hello

I'm quite new to this version of TOME and I need your help with the Cursed class. I've started at least 15 times only to die at lvl 2 or 3 every time. I find it impossible to progress - damage taken is very large, damage done lacks.

Could someone please advise on what skills to concentrate in the beginning to be able to survive the early game?

Also, I always answer yes when asked if I want to curse my first weapon. Is that a good idea?

Thanks.

I'm something of a skeptic when it comes to the cursed weapon tree. It's probably nice but it is more micromanagement than I prefer.

What races have you tried? I like dwarves, but the encounter with Brotoq can be rough. Thalore is a pretty easy start, and the stats are almost as good as dwarves for Cursed. What skills do you focus on? Make sure Gloom is sustained, along with Stalk if you have it (I recommend it). I find my Cursed who focus Willpower tend to fare a little better. Because your regen infusions are so gimped, make sure to use them as early as possible.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Try playing a cornac. If you are doing a dwarf cursed that is by far the hardest. I can't count the number of dwarf cursed of mine that have died before they hit level 4. But if you insist on it, put points into gloom and make sure it is on. Put some points into unnatural body and accuracy as well. Stalk is amazing as is dominate so get those. As far as cursed weapons, I would go for it as it adds some nice stuff, the downside is pretty low, just gotta spend some rather limited generics... Make sure to do the arena those two generics are a must and he will disappear when you hit level 10.

Keep trying, you'll get past it!

Posted a response, but I don't see it, so here it is again...

I know a lot of people recommend the quirky talents like gloom to start off. My recommendation is to play a fighter for the first few levels. Put all points into strength (for damage), get Combat Accuracy to 2 quickly (and a little higher after), get Weapon Mastery up, get Armor Training so you can wear some good armor. Once you can consistently hit for over 30 damage, the game gets a lot easier. Then you can start to focus on gloom and other things. I'd still recommend you keep an eye on your damage output. Cursed can dish out a lot of damage if you focus on it but don't always survive long battles. Dwarves are hard but I usually make it out about 50% of the time.

Cursed Aura can be a good tree and I usually take it. I often wait to put points into it though. You really need to get the first two talents almost maxed out to get good bonuses. I guess you could micromanage it, but I rarely do. Defiling Touch lets you boost a single curse so I typically use that to switch on the curse I want at the moment.

Thank you for the answers guys.

Yes, I was trying a dwarf. It has been rough! :)

I had gloom active always. I experimented with both stalk and dominate but they didn't help at that level.

I will consider a build like the last suggested as well.

It seems I wasn't doing anything very wrong, just unlucky in picking dwarfs.

Thanks again.

Dominate can be helpful - but I found that it's more useful to always use it when the enemy is adjacent to get the melee attack included with the chance effect.
