Trying to grow my Archmage now, so some number of questions arised.
First - encountered a number of bosses. They easilly ignore my attempts to stun/freeze/blind them - i assume, that future bosses will also ignore any status change abilities? So how to fight them?
Does rune of the rift work well on bosses?
Second, will going for max mana + mana shield and ignoring constitution work out? Simple math suggests that 5 mana/will is better then 4hp/con - if the ratio will get lower than 1.25 plus you need only one rune for both mana and healing - free slot.
Third, do stonewall casted on an enemy ignore their resistance/immunities/saves? If so will AOE like inferno or ice storm work on creature caught in stone prison? Does this provide a good boss-killing combo?
Are there any creatures totally immune to magic in tome? I.e. is Strike a must have talent?

Re: Archmage questions.
Also additional question on shaddowblade.
It seems to me as interesting tactics to stealth as near to boss as possible and then struck him with congeal time making him really slow.
But shaddow blade's spellpower won't be to powerfull and boss will shrug the effect. Or I'm wrong?
And if i'm using congeal time then playing mage - it doesn't seem to work well since you need to hit just the right spot - which is difficult task then combat is ranged.
So a combo of congeal time + freeze/stone wall should be a better option. Yet i need to calculate everything perfectly - since if CT strikes frozen or imprisoned enemy no effect will take place. Thus a question is what the order of effects - after my turn what happens first: CT projectile moves, or freeze/SW duration goes down?

Re: Archmage questions.
Most stuff can be frozen, at least for a while. Depending on damage output that 'while' can be 1 turn to shatter the cube
.
Stun and blind affect some bosses, some not.
Going for mana shield alone will probably kill you in the long run, since you're losing your escape options without mana.

@GreenyMark
1 - I don't recall there being any bosses who are 100% immune to status effects.
2 - The last time I used Rune of the Rift on a boss it complete healed him. I mainly use it for finishing off enemies.
3 - You have enough stat points per game to max out 3 stats, unless you're playing on insane.
4 - Stonewall surrounds you with walls, which completely blocks LOS and interaction with enemies.
5 - No, Strike isn't necessary for a mage.

Note that Disruption Shield is, I believe, vulnerable to being dispelled.
I recommend focusing on the Aegis tree first, and on runes that grant shields. Those are instant-cast, so if you get hit by a dispel, you can just throw up another one as long as you have some degree of backup.
Additionally, think about the order in which damage is inflicted, and the options available to you at each point. Ideally, you want to be able to escape when your defenses are low. If you rely heavily on Disruption Shield, though, you're basically "giving up" all of your HP -- that is, if you get hit with enough force to drop your Disruption Shield, you'll be out of mana and unable to do much before your HP get cut through as well.
Whereas with regular shields, which don't cost mana, your HP remain a backup option even once your shields are exhausted, and you can still use your remaining mana to escape.
