Help me understand my instadeath

#1 Post by tekrunner »

I was fighting the Daikara backup gardian. I was at full health (around 900 HP), he was a few squares away, I had casted Slow and was shooting at him with my bow. Then he rushed, a bunch of things happened, and I died. In the log below my last action is on the third line.

I understand that I was dazed by his first rush, but what happened then? Did I get dazed again by his stunning blow, and then killed by a final rush? Any idea of what I could have done to avoid this?

Looks like that, but i don't understand why his stunning blow dazed you.

Cross tier effect?

Also, rush has no minimum distance? I haven't had the opportunity to use it much, yet.

Rush does daze
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

Rush -> Daze -> Stunning Blow Crit -> Daze through skill that dazes enemies if you hit them over a certain % of their max hp ( would be my guess ) -> Rush

He has rush level 9 with 4 seconds cooldown.
Did you move him around with gravity well or such while he killed you?

With this boss, it's always Rush. :/
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Ah, I didn't know such a skill existed. I guess that explains it.
This character is a Temporal Warden, so no gravity well. I have no idea why he'd have moved back and then rushed me again (would the AI make him do that?). I guess this boss is a no-go if you don't have a high armor and/or can't stop him from rushing into you, because really, I think I'd have died just as fast with my shield up. Does dazing check for stun resistance?

Some day I'll convince Darkgod (hint, hint) to have Rush use physical power instead of weapon damage (and not a lot, something like 20-200). It's really enough that it closes and gives a guaranteed daze (which means you can close and follow up with an Assault or what have you). The game's moving more and more away from unfair deaths and I think Rush is still one of the biggest offenders.

Myrmidons are a lesser albeit notable offender; they deal significant melee damage and also have the bad tendency of showing up in packs in darkened zones. Wretchlings are generally not an issue, though I had an instant-death recently from a Wretchling pack + a room full of mages in the Kryl'Feijan crypt. After that I started scouting every corner with my invis rune.

Lowering the stamina cost and removing the damage from rush would make it balanced.
