Okay, through every character over the past 10 versions, I haven't been able to get this quest to pop up ever. I would -really- like to unlock the dumb poison tree and get on with my game, but its kind of ridiculous that what may amount to a year spent in game running around the world map I haven't seen this thing.
Is there something I'm missing? Is my profile broken? Any way to maybe induce this thing to come up before I reach the top cap for the quest with my rogue with his very boring non-poison skill set?

Re: Lost Merchant Quest
Wow, its like karma bitching just fixed my problem, I am not kidding you guys, it has been MONTHS since I've seen this quest.
*edit*
Just for future reference, running around the top part of the map, where the snow is, behind the mountains triggers it very reliably.

Re: Lost Merchant Quest
There is another area at the east end of the map, around the mountains where the dwarven start location is, that can trigger the quest.

Re: Lost Merchant Quest
I've literally triggered this quest like 98 out of every 100 games.

Re: Lost Merchant Quest
I wish I'd STOP triggering this thing. The assassin lord is insane now. All he has to do is hit me ONCE while my wild infusion is on cooldown and I'm dead from all the stacked poison bs even if I get away. I'm going to need either WAY WAY WAY more levels or poison immunity, neither of which is going to happen before the quest triggers it seems.
Re: Lost Merchant Quest
Unless I'm way overlevelled and have good aoe skills, I don't even bother fighting that encounter, just talk to the Lord and say, wait lets work together! D:

If you think you can survive to the late game (4000 gold pieces, been East and back), then there is considerable incentive to save the Merchant. So, it's certainly not a trivial thing to decide to side with the assassin.
