You can't miss it

#1 Post by Chris Woods »

Hey all!

I finally made it to the second continent! I'm so excited! I met some chick who was fighting an orc. Sided with her and killed the orc, and she told me to talk to a paladin "to the south-east. You can't miss it."

Unfortunately, I can indeed miss it. In fact, I've mapped the entire continent and can not fathom what this crazy chick is talking about. The only 4 entrances to anything I have found are:
- Nondescript cave (this is where crazy elf girl lives)
- High peak (I can not reach this area as it is surrounded by mountains)
- Orc breeding pit (Didn't enter; if this is what she was talking about this lunatic SERIOUSLY needs to communicate better.)
- Dark Crypt (Again, cannot imagine this is what she meant by "can't miss it"...)

None of these locations are to the south east anyhow (unless "south" is not down on my screen, or "east" isn't right.)

So, uh, where is this paladin I'm supposed to find? The only unmapped squares I have are across ocean at this point.

Thanks!

Odd.
The two times I came east it was as easy as she told me to find the city.
It is located not that many moves SE of where you end up.
It might be in some mountains, but it was not hard to spot.
My guess is that it might be 10-20 moves from where you came out.

If you're playing with ASCII graphics it can be rather hard to spot the entrance to the town (it took some time for me to find it the first time). Look closely on the mountains for a * if you're playing with ASCII on.

It's a whole load of fun to try and find for the first time with Mushroom tiles, heheh. It's in the middle of that yellow mountain range directly southeast of where you popped up in the East for the first time. With Mushroom tiles, look for a mountain with a very small yellow dot in it. Minimap will also show that tile as purple. Don't forget to try to chat with everyone there to get all the dungeons.
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?

Sheepishly, I did in fact plain miss it. I'm using whatever the default tiles are for t4 and it is a mountain with a little yellow dot on it. (It also has a cave area instead of the usual mountain base.)

Thanks to everyone for the hints, I guess I'm just blind!

Heh. I had the same problem with my very first character to make it there. Course, I thought I was powerful enough to take on a patrol at whatever level I was at with a mindslayer. Lost the mindslayer before finding that city.

Well, see, when I started playing ToME 4, the default tile set was Mushroom. I believe the choice of default tile set gets saved in your profile somehow -- e.g. my profile must say something like "tileset = Mushroom" rather than "tileset = default".

So, now that the default tile set is Shockbolt (??) people who are starting now have a different tile set than those of us who started in the past.

And don't worry -- you're definitely not the first person who couldn't see the entrance to the Sunwall. It used to be one of the most frequently asked questions.
