Recommended character levels

#1 Post by martinuzz »

I have a level 28 Yeek Archmage now, walking through Daikara. There's still 2 dungeons that I have located, but not entered yet; The Elven Ruins, and the Mark of the Spellblaze.
What character level is recommended, before entering those, to have a fair chance of completing them?

Well, you're probably feeling rather overpowered walking through Daikara, so I wouldn't recommend heading to either area right away as they are significantly more challenging. Do Dreadfell first, as it'll give you a few more levels and some better gear, whilst also giving you a gameplay challenge more on line with the inhabitants and bosses of those two dungeons. Also be wary of a random crypt encounter when walking back from Daikara. Note that if you can handle the crypt you can definitely manage the Mark of Spellblaze. You probably can handle the elven ruins easily enough, but the boss can be tricky, and you'd best have a bit more experience under your belt before facing it.

If you mean, the Dark Crypt, I've cleared that already before entering Daikara. Didn't manage to rescue the girl in time though.
I've just cleared Daikara and exited at char level 30. I guess I'll take a short dive into the upper level(s) of Dreadfell for some more decent gear, and then go for the Mark.

I've cleared Splellblaze smoothly with my speedmancer (shalore shadowblade) but run away from elven ruins boss. I was so panicked that I didn't even check how exactly he attacked me.

Yay, the master is dead x2

3 more questions:

- is there any benefit to visiting the far east through my Sher'tul home before I go there via the main quest line?

- now that I'm past the orc ambush, can I go to Last Hope to sell some stuff at the rare goods shop, without automatically triggering the main quest there? I want to do the Spellblaze and Elven ruins before continuing with the main quest, but I'd really like to sell all those tons of loot first, preferably at 35 gold a piece.

- it seems to me, that just carrying the rod crystal around is better than attaching it to a rod, for the resists it gives. Or is the +5 in all stats worth more than that? (I have 100% stun and 100% confuse resist already, without the crystal. But the fear and mind resists are nice)

I have no idea how you'd visit th'far east via your sher'tul home, so I can't comment on that. I'm fairly sure it's not possible, unless you're running the SVN versions and something odd has been done.

As to the rare goods shop, you can visit last hope just fine. You have to specifically enter a building there to continue the quest, and even that just opens up another dungeon. You'll eventually be able to move between the east and west freely, anyway.

Re: The crystal and its resists: Literally nothing in the game uses fear, so that resist is pointless. Precisely one notable creature has any mind damage (psyrens) and by the time you meet them the amount of mind damage they do is pretty pitiable, so that's not exactly a big deal either. What you really want to do with the telos staff crystal is save it for the east's jeweler quest, and use it for a super-ring. It's a diamond with a little extra, and the only thing it's going to hurt is a heavy stealth character, which an archmage is not.
