Rune of the Rift: does it really work?

#1 Post by PowerWyrm »

I've used that rune at least twenty times now... the only effect I got was "the spell fizzles". Are there any hidden requirements to use that rune (stats, monsters immune)?

It's very touchy, but it does work some of the time. Not sure under what conditions, though, or if it's totally random.

It uses the same hit code that targeted phase door does which is a spellpower vs. spell resist + a modifier for rather or not the target has continuum destabilization.

In other words it works better for spell casters.

But it is pretty useful... It's like another stun attack in your arsenal if it works (and I heard it apparently gives air if you are in a waterlogged area).

So you cast it, and it helps all your skills cool down, so once the boss comes back you can stun him again with all the stun abilities you have.

Waste of a turn against bosses, I have yet to meet one that won't shrug off the effect if the rune doesn't fizzle to begin with.

No problem so far, and 400 damage is nothing to sneeze at

I used it to very favourable effect against the Master in b19. I only got about 200 damage from it though as I had low willpower. Dunno if it's been nerfed a bit since then.

If the Time Travel doesn't work the damage doesn't either. Maybe the description should be more clear but the two effects are tied together.

If the effect worked 100% of the time the cooldown would need to be much higher or it'd be ripe for abuse (rift, stun, rift, stun, rift, you get the idea).

Anyway for high magic, high willpower characters it's a very nice Rune. What we need is more artifact runes and infusions though so other builds have options.

Also it should fizzle against teleport immune enemies too but as far as I know no enemy is immune to teleport (though some bosses might be, I haven't looked at everyone of them to be sure).
