Hi,
I'm working on a module / variant and wondering how people come up with their variant names?
The standard used to be XXX-band. But, now that the T4 engine has brought us into the next generation of Roguelikes, has the standard changed? Perhaps something like XXX-ToME? Or XXX-ome?
The affix is helpful to tie the variant to its main code branch and avoid confusion. For example, if you name a variant "Kingdom of Examples", it may leave people scratching their head. Where as "KoEband", "Exampleband", or "Exband" is instantly recognizable as an Angband variant.
Any thoughts on how this pertains to ToME development?
Thanks

Re: Naming your module / variant
ToME variants are discouraged. The artwork is copyrighted, and messing with the lore of Eyal is tricky as the world is still being built and developed.
For a module I like to find a core game mechanic and then choose an alliterative two-word title that is easy to Google. Toby the Trapper, Broken Bottle, Rogue Rage... The most important thing is to make it reasonably unique.

Could you use the JRPG module to make a fork of Tome?
I don't want to see this dude's idea for a roguelike go down the tubes for something as silly as icons.
A lot of people use straight up ascii, Orrus, so stripping the icons out won't me you won't have players. (I won't play it, though. I can't stand being an at sign.) You can use MY icons from Hellfire, but they don't precisely fit a fantasy theme, Hellfire being set in hell.
Good luck, man. If you need anything the IRC channel is the place to be. There's live support in there.

There are loads and loads of free tilesets out there. Here's a handy list:

And making your own basic things isn't too hard. I did that with my module - This Jam and everyone loved the tiles.
