[B.O.B.] Version 0.3.1 mini-contest (closed)

#1 Post by Marcotte »

As an attempt to get people to play my module, I present the B.O.B. version 0.3.1 mini-contest.

The goals:
Be the first to post in this thread either a character dump, or a link the character vault, for a character which has either:
  • Defeated the first boss (Winner: Goblinz)
or
  • Reached level 15 of the dungeon (Winner: madmonk)
The rewards:
Both players who reach the goals first will each have one of their suggestions implemented in the next version of B.O.B. (0.3.2). The suggestions can be:
  • A new monster (see the monster_types file to check what categories are planned)
  • A new ability
  • A new mutation
  • A new weapon or armor (discouraged, as these will be rewritten for the next release)
  • Anything else that I find acceptable
I obviously retain my right of veto, but if I reject one suggestion, the player will simply asked to give another. In the case where I have to remove the suggestion in a later release, the player will also be allowed to get a new suggestion implemented.

So, happy testing playing!

The Eternal Guardian is a bit of a horror...

Spends most of its time closing wounds
Is very slow
Follows you down stairs
Is virtually impossible to kill... By that I mean that it takes me a very long time to knock 200 of its 1000 HP off it. So it would take 5 hours of running around to kill it.

Not worth the time.... except he follows you.

This would've been a great opportunity to link to your module in your post... Where do I find it again? Google code somewhere IIRC.

Great game so far. It is nice to see a module for the T engine. I have been having issues with some of my characters not registering with the web site. I was wondering if other people had this problem.

EDIT

It appears only dead characters are registered. Is this intended?
Those who complain are just Volunteering to fix the problem

<yufra> every vault designer should ask themselves exactly that: What Would Grey Do?

Nope, but characters are only registered when you save or die, but not when you "save and exit"... That's the second bug for the online character sheet... (the other one prevents the list of defeated bosses to be shown correctly online, so if you try to do the contest it would be a good idea to post a normal character dump, or just "save" while the message is still in the log).

But by then if will have fully heal itself...

I balanced the Eternal Guardian such that is was a big challenge, even to me, who knows its weaknesses. So I guess it is no surprise that no one has been able to defeat it yet. Such as to prove that it can be defeated, and to give some hints on how to do so, I will run some characters with the sole goal to do so and post them here.

OK, here is the first one: Acidic Puncher. I started the fight at level 6, and used my starting blood of life and about 8 mending potions during the fight. I didn't need to run away to rest.

And here is another: Not Yet. The only resource I used in that fight was a mending potion prior to starting to damage the guardian, due to me being careless and moving next to it.

Now that is interesting. I haven't looked at the code (not wanting to spoil it), but typically I come across the EG at character level 3 - 4. So this suggests I might have to stair scum a bit.

[update]I usually run a weapon type with thaumaturgy and magic strikes.

Yeah I killed the guardian. Surprisingly it wasn't that long of a fight. here is the link http://te4.org/characters/931/bob/e3e4f ... 1cc000edf0

If any thing the corpse eaters are more nasty.

trumpet noises Congratulation Goblinz! trumpet noises

You are the first winner of the first half of the mini-contest! So now you can pick your prize. As outlined in the first post, you can give a suggestion for a new monster/item/spell/other that I will implement in BOB version 0.3.2.

For the others (and also Goblinz): the second goal is still valid. So the first one to reach level 15 will also get the prize.

Unfortunately, I am off-line, so no character on the vault.

I was lvl 5, I used 1 mending potion. The build is very similar, though gained acid spit too. I reached level 9 eventually. :-/ Didn't know those rats hit me so hard... 35 damage! (70% of a Mending Potion), I had 1229 regen at that point but the rats become so quick, that doesn't matter.

I dunno if I may ask for a features or not... But mine isn't as much features as what it is a focus shift. I'd like the tooltips to work. So explain what each of the abilities does (Str, Desx, Con, Pow, Man, Cre). Also, especially, add on the tooltip on the forges that "F" forges items. Not just "Wonderful things can be forged here" or something. Give the player useful feedback on the tooltips.

How does regen work, mana regen etc. Explain armor, explain essence etc.

Generally though, I really enjoy the game, it's quick play, and low-commitment. Rather play 5 chars a day, than 1 char for a week. Dunno how well balanced it is yet, but the concepts are pretty solid.

Good to see many people who destroyed the Guardian! Especially one who didn't use the same build as I did :) . (A hint for those posting character sheet: use the code display when doing so instead of the quote display, it will look nicer.)

That is actually already planned for the next (0.3.2) version, as can be seen in the TODO file I (purposefully) left with the module.
