Now, this may be a terrible idea but I think my criticism is sound, at the very least.
Basically, the problem is that armor stops physical damage but so-too does physical resistance. The result of this is that physical resistance, which often shows up on lighter armors, is generally more effective than the armor stat.
My probably suspect solution is to simply get rid of physical resistance entirely, including as part of "resist all" and simply leave mitigating physical damage to the armor stat entirely.
Bad idea? Maybe. Require a ton of re-balancing? Probably. Worth it? Probably not.
Another idea is simply to eliminate physical resistance from lighter armors like robes.

Armor doesn't block physical damage, it blocks weapon damage. Weapon damage is usually physical and physical damage is usually weapon damage, but it's far from always the case.
