Little feedback

#1 Post by xoria »

First, thanks for the great game, I absolutely love it, it is brilliant indeed. And here's my little wishlist for ingame UI. I don't meant to present it like something negative you know. You may consider it like someone's crazy thoughts. If it would help - great, if not - great too! :D So here we go:

1) Multiline item names look messy in equipment window. Would more convinient to see just pics and hover on them to get full popup info.

2) Is there any purpose of item letters(first column) on each item row? I couldn't find any. When I press specified letter nothing happens. In other(old) roguelikes letters were used to access full item info window. If we don't need them, I'd remove them or place on their space icons that would indicate newly picked up items(to find them more quickly in inventory). The indicator would dissapear when we hover on item(meaning we checked it out).

3) Very obstructive behavior when I hover on item(in inventory or on my character) - the popup stays visible until I hover on another item. Thus it makes hard to overview my character & gear. I'd rather prefer to see popup *only* when I hover on item(popup must fade out when I hover out of item).

4) Why the screen is green when I got frozen? Shoudn't it be blue? :D

5) Screen of known lore could be a bit enhanced. Now it's freaking huge and barely explorable. Very hard to find anything particular. Maybe put all this stuff inside expandable sections (Sher'tul, Age Of Allure, Races, etc.) and make a panel with small list of last picked up lore notes (that would help to find recent notes very quickly). Or just make marks for updates, turning this:

... into something like this:

This look gives us the hint which notes we missed in every section (3/5 - 3 from 5 pieces). Yellow color indicates recently updated section - to quickly find last notes. I think tracking of last 3 pieces will be enough. The order of sections may be alphabetical or chronological. What do you think?

6) Load game screen doesn't need a confirmation window for exit.

That's it for now. Anyway good job devs, hi from Ukraine.

my opinion on the points

1. not game breaking, but certainly could use some work
2. i would rather have it as an indicator of "can be activated".
-red, if there is another requirement or something, dunno.
-yellow, if need to be equipped to activate
-green, can be activated without equipping.
3.i am not sure if i agree with that. again, may use some work, but to me at least, the way it is now seems better than your suggestion.
if i am annoyed by the column of text, i can just hover over a button, which has a much smaller description.
4... good question.

A UI shouldn't, at the very least, obstruct your view. Also, it should be easy to use and non-intrusive. Although hovering over something with a small description is a fine solution, it's still an annoyance that the game would better without. Perhaps a a toggle option in the UI section of the options for something called "Persistent Tooltips" I.E. Tooltips that persist even when your mouse isn't over the element the tooltip describes.

And I find it funny how a lot of the feedback threads are about the UI. I guess it is kinda messy now that I think about it, it's just that I've gotten used to it. It's either that or threads complaining about rares. :P

For 1, it would perhaps be possible to just display the base identifier + tier?

weapon:

tier 4 pwr 48-64

armour

tier 3 arm 30

feet

tier 5 arm 12

etc.

2) Anyway that letters are useless and may be reforged into something more useful I guess.

Oh man for me it's just so annoying to get rid of the popup and I can't because it always shows something. Would be great to see it like some UI option as mentioned by Radon26.

Updated first post with new 5) section.

I agree with removing the clutter

Letters next to gear I use all the time in fortress, to drop items quickly
MADNESS rocks
