Ingame unlock tips

#1 Post by Suslik »

I think the topic is really underbumped because most active players have already unlocked most things and don't care about them anymore. However every new added unlock feature forces even them to go to wiki/irc/sources to get directions how to unlock it. And what about newcomers? How are they supposed to unlock a solipsist, paradox mage or a necromancer without spoilering stuff using non-ingame info?

My proposal is this: what if we add ingame lore hints on unlocking stuff? For example let every unlock have 1-3 hints depending on unlock difficulty. The more you play, the more hints you unlock(random lore drop) and if you really play a lot you will eventually find transparent enough hints on how to unlock everything. That info can be added to flavor text in --locked-- mouseover info in birther in addition to current really vague hints.

Putting unlock tips into in-game info is a great idea.

Dunno about the locked message mouse-over, since the whole metaclass category is unlabeled until you unlock one of the members, isn't it?

Maybe use the same mechanism as what we use to deliver the Backup Guardian tips, so people are actually expecting tips to happen and will pay attention when the backup guardian tips appear there.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

Agreed!

All of them except Wilder, which for some reason appears without any unlocks. At least on the 1.2.4 Steam Mac release. But you can still expand the (unlabeled) metaclass category and get mouse-over text. Some of them, like the Archmage, do give you a hint, but others don't.
