Wet effect...

#1 Post by Delmuir »

Can we add the wet effect to Thunderstorm and Hurricane? It makes thematic sense that a storm would get you wet but it would also create a fantastic synergy between two B-grade skill-trees.

A stun spell lowering someone's stun resistance after stunning someone isn't all that useful.

I'd rather see Shock get added to Thunderstorm-similar but more thematic. But Wet would work too.

I wasn't suggesting it lowered STUN resistance but FREEZE resistance, which is what Wet does unless I'm mistaken.

The idea being that you could use Shatter more effectively as it's still a pretty useless spell in a lot of regards. It'd be nice if if shatter did a small amount of blast radius damage but that's another problem entirely...

Stun, Daze and Freeze all check the same resistance value.

I guess I don't understand the mechanics. I just understand the gameplay implications…

Right now, Hurricane doesn't make you "Wet" thus Glacial Vapor doesn't get the bonus to freeze. Therefore, no effective synergy.

That little tweak would make an ice/lightning Archmage viable… maybe. Currently, it's a pretty crap combo.

Shock makes things shocked, whcih also reduces stun resist

Seriously? I have no idea what you're talking about.

Does it have the effect of making Glacial Vapor cause Freeze or not?

This is the problem with a bunch of engineers, ha ha…

All three - daze, stun, and freeze - check stun resistance, and only stun resistance.
Shock (from shock) lowers stun resistance, making it more vulnerable to all three (daze, stun, and freeze).
Wet (from watery talents) lowers stun resistance, making it more vulnerable to all three (daze, stun, and freeze).

They already have (very) good synergy, but IMHO, there should be seperate daze/freeze resistances that are generally equal to stun resist, al la sleep res is from confusion, and thus can be increased/decreased independently from it's 'base' through artifacts/skills/buffs/etc.
As it is, combining melee with water or lightning looks like it could be... interesting. Stun-lock that Worm that Walks!
When in trouble / or in doubt / run in circles / scream and shout.

If you're saying "Does Shock trigger the specific Wet effects that the various Ice spells have", then no.

However, that doesn't mean it should. Categories are, at least ostensibly, meant to exist fairly compartmentalized from each other. Some concepts take multiple categories to express, but in theory at least, they're meant to be matched sets, not just totally matched up to each other randomly.

At least, that's the theory, design-wise, IIRC.

Wet is a magical effect, not some mere water drops on you :)

Yeah, wet just sounds like the pedestrian variety. Why not 'Drenched' or so instead?

The name doesn't really communicate that.

Try using Water-Infused, Aquatied, Sea-Cursed, or something.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

The storms caused by hurricane and thunderstorm aren't standard storms either, they are magically created. I like OP's idea, but... How about another suggestion?

The daze chance for thunderstorm in Tempest isn't great anyway, maybe we could change that to the wet effect and add hurricane to the mix? Currently there's only one skill that adds the wet effect (outside of the rune) AFAIK. That's not really enough to reliably see it. wet from hurricane and thunderstorm, even if I have to take tempest is thematic, and because it also lowers daze and stun chance, would synergize well with the lightning based trees without using the cold trees.

If too many people are opposed to adding the new effect here, might I suggest that more talents need to apply the new effect, even if they're in the "proper" trees? With just one talent applying it, it seems a little um... unreliable. Maybe add wet for when your iceblock is shattered early?
