Grinding farportals gets old after your character does dozen of those....
Basically that's a period of grind followed by one hard fight, one central battle that will give you that randart you came here for....
Not that first few levels of farportal can't get you killed if you inattentive but it's still a grind
I propose that after you did seven farportals (enough to get the achievement) envoy from some arena from another dimension comes. And offers you to change how your farportal works, tying it to one place - (Insert name) Arena... Making you unable to visit farportal dungeons and limiting your option only to the arena that will allow you to have fast but deadly fights
Reward? Same as farportal boss: a randart.
Opponents may vary... It may be a farportal boss, Farportal boss with friends, just a bunch of really high level monsters room of death level.
It may have special fights like:
1) Team match ( Like farportal boss and you against two farportal bosses),
2) fight against random waves of monster with a goal not to kill them all but survive X-turns
3) You and invincible farportal boss (he can't hurt you either) are competing against each other in who will kill more generic monsters around...
Also, it may have special conditions like high peak zones have, but farportal style: random

Re: New way to use Farportal
This is a really cool idea, two points though;
1. Yes the farportals can be a bit of a grind at some points but why do so many just for a slim chance at a decent randart?
2. The whole idea would be awesome as an entirely new place to go rather an adaption to the farportal, say a "Colosseum" for competitors from all over Maj'Eyal.

You mean like the arena?
Re: New way to use Farportal
I like this idea, though not some of the details of implementation.
First, why make it only one or the other? Just have it give you a third option at the Farportal(Go in/go to arena/no, don't go in). It seems like it's probably balanced enough, as long as it takes the same amount of energy(time-wise you get cracks at good items far faster this way, so it being worse in other ways balances it out; there's far less of a realtime cost this way.).
The other thing is, it would be best to make it a permanent unlock once you fulfill whatever weird farportal reqs(randomized event would work too) needed to get access to it. That way you don't have to grind a bunch of Farportals to get there every run, which is vaguely purpose defeating.

Re: New way to use Farportal
Access to the arena while in the adventuring campaign would be good.
Those mode suggestions sound pretty fun too.

Re: New way to use Farportal
I had an idea a while back for an almost tower-defense type game with waves of enemies emananting from an out of control farportal, could always tag that into this. Open the portal from your end, and let the enemies rush to you, while having to defend your own fortress. (And more risk, you can't run.) Could even tie fortress energy into it, to enable defense mechanisms. I've suggested this as a game mode before, but could as easily work a shorter version into the campaign. Of course, I can't code, so I just have to hope someone likes it.
(And as it's own game mode, really needs a more redesigned fortress or 3. Not a whole lot of room for fancy tactics in the existing one.)

I mean like the arena but in the adventuring mode itself rather than as a separate game mode. Also more like a tournament, knockout rounds eventually leading to a big bad-ass boss with a tier 3/4 randart as the prize.Sirrocco wrote:You mean like the arena?
