Auto-switching to use a tool
For some tools, notably diggers, you don't want to wear them constantly, just long enough to use them. It would be very useful if the "you must wear this to use it" screen would ask if you would like to wear it temporarily. Assuming nothing interrupted, you would automatically switch to the tool, use it, and then switch back.
Re: Auto-switching to use a tool
I thought you were going to ask the exact opposite question.
In the default configuration, if you ever equip a digger, it will get an icon on your talent hotkey bar. If you press that hotkey, it will try to use the item -- if it's equipped. Otherwise, it will equip the item.
Now, the question I thought you were going to ask is "Can we get a confirmation box or something, for when we click to use an item that isn't equipped? Rather than being surprised by an equipment swap and loss of a turn in the middle of a fight."
Or, maybe this would be easier: "Can we get a different border color or something around hotkey bar icons that are tied to items that are not currently equipped, so we don't try to use them in the middle of a fight?"

Re: Auto-switching to use a tool
It's basically the same issue, just seen from two different perspectives, because the game handles the two situations in different (but equally incorrect) fashions. In one case, the interface is refusing to do what it tells us is necessary. In the other, it automatically does something without telling us it would be necessary. Either way, the player should be able to say whether they want to keep their current tool (and cancel the action), switch to the other tool just long enough to perform the action, or switch to the other tool permanently.
Re: Auto-switching to use a tool
How about simply allowing to use tools from the inventory? Now that all charms have one cooldown there shouldn't be a way to abuse it.
Re: Auto-switching to use a tool
That still saves you a turn of equipment swapping during combat, plus the 3 turns of cooldown for the just-swapped-in charm. So it's not a cosmetic change.
