Improved Mod Database

#1 Post by JerryShaw »

Hi everyone,

I mentioned at one of my favorite mod's thread that I would like to see a more robust mod database where people can vote for their favorite mods, and Darkgod kindly suggested that I post here to further explore this idea. Since ToME is probably one of the better (if not the best) roguelike out there, I think it's a shame that we don't have more mods and modders out there to take advantage of the flexible game engine.

Do you think having a better designed mod database where it's possible for players to vote for their favorite mods would encourage more mods? Since Darkgod releases new versions quite frequently, we could also have mod contests to see who can produce the most appreciated mod for that version and if they are particularly good quality, then maybe Darkgod could reward them by incorporating part or all of the mod into the main game (as long as they stay within the lore/style of the game).

Anyway as an avid fan of mods for this amazing game, I would like to thank all the developers and modders out there and hope to see many more quality work from you.

Technically, I think you're talking addons, not modules. Still, yes, more support would be good!

I'd also suggest fixing how the 'tag' system for addons works - I can't see the tags unless I'm NOT logged, and I don't think you can search by tags either. Having a tag cloud/list of addons by tag would also be nice...

Addons (most likely obsolete): Wights, Trolls, Starting prodigy, Alternate save/resistance system

A better idea would be to make a module/addon database accessible from the game itself.

I added rating to addons; and someday the ratingwill appear in the list :)
