Nerf Subject Z

#1 Post by Grey »

Pleeeeeease... I want to have at least some chance of unlocking Mindslayers legitimately. Subject Z is just impossible for a level 9 character. Some suggestions:

1. Give him only 1 weapon. With 2 weapons he does an insane amount of damage, especially with strong egos attached. I've had several yeeks killed in a single round.
2. Remove his Shadowblade talents and make him pure Doomed. This would keep him interesting as an opponent whilst making him less instantly deadly. Right now he's unapproachable in melee, but also has too many talents to lock you down or close in on your from a distance.
3. Reduce his talent levels to make his attacks less effective. Also reduce his saves so he doesn't ignore attacks so easily.
4. Reduce his HP.
5. Change the level range so he starts off lower level for yeeks.
6. Buff the Wayist a bit for yeeks.

All or some of these changes would be very welcome. I feel like I've personally genocided at least half the yeek race trying to get Mindslayers unlocked.

I agree that he's too powerful and/or the Wayist is too weak, but I was able to unlock it on my first legitimate try as a Yeek Archmage (a character built specifically to rescue the Wayist and kill Subject Z). The moment you see the Wayist, teleport him to the island of Rel stairs. The rest of it is just trying to stay out of Subject Z's Shadowstep range while casting at him and keeping him paralyzed/frozen whenever possible. It was surprisingly easy and he didn't do any damage to me.

The problem being the only way to make the Wayist survive is to teleport him the hell away.

With other classes I've found not only is the Wayist impossible to save, but Subject Z is impossible to beat or bypass.

You mean as a yeek, right? I haven't had much difficulty with Z or saving the Wayist nearly all of the time with other races.

So, as I've suggested before, perhaps when the Wayist dies he should unleash one final mental assault on Subject Z, thereby debuffing him significantly. Or maybe the Wayist should use the yeek Wayist talent when you fist see him.

I believe Grey is speaking specifically to meet the qualifications of unlocking Mindslayers [which can't be done if the wayist dies].

DarkGod slightly nerfed Subject Z and slightly buffed the Wayist today.

Keep the suggestions coming, Grey!

Unless subject Z was buffed recently I'm not sure what the problem was. You just need to show up with the right build. I downed him in one try once it occurred to me to use a yeek archer.

Yeah, but like Grey was saying, this shouldn't only be reasonably accomplished with a minority of builds. Should it be challenging? Absolutely. Unfortunately, the way it is in B34 is tedious (get to level 9, get hit by Subject Z once, die) and kind of unfair (see previous parenthetical).

The only way I've gotten Z is by just blasting the heck out of him with an Archmage or a Temp Warden, but still you need quite a bit of luck with his flurry of doom.

Or surround him by summons...that's actually how I unlocked mindslayers in the first place...

But yeah, the unlock shouldn't be so hard it only takes specialized build to beat...or if you really want unlock, recall away, then come back to fight Z later after you got lots of levels...
Why can't TOME 4 has a secret room where you can represent game bugs as, well, enemies you can crush like in Divine Divinity? That would be cool...

Well on the subject of Subject Z....there are QUITE A FEW boss mobs that need serious adjusting. The lightning guy from the Derth quest is way way out of line with the lvl you can recieve the quest... Even with 47% lightning resist i still died a bunch of times as a Wrymic..and i believe i was lvl 23 at the time.

Several mobs in the game need to be looked at because of chain stuns/frozen etc.

Did you get that lightning aspect ability which is like a movement infusion but makes you *immune* to lightning?

Pretty useful for running away when you either have the Hurricane debuff on you or get to half health.

I mean if you have to you can really cheese this fight as a wyrmic with a point in that move ability and stairscumming.

Could also use a movement infusion for free action which makes you immune to daze (as well as stun and freeze) and presumably Hurricane since you can't be dazed ;)
