All lore should re-read upon rediscovery

#1 Post by Grey »

One shouldn't have to fish about in the lore menu for a piece of lore you just found just because you gotten it from the fortress. I don't think there's any reason for any lore presenting situation not to re-display the lore.

Personally I do like not being interrupted by stuff that isn't "new" However I can see the reasoning grey has, and suggest that it becomes an option you can toggle once you have unlocked the fortress. it would also be nice if the lore was grouped by categories, and had a fold out tree structure like the birth options do, so that for example all the dungeon clues would be in one branch, all the discussions on the history of the races would fall under another, How to be a necromencer a third, and all of the gathered "artifact lore" under another tab. that would make it a lot easier to find specific things you wanted when scrolling through a list several hundred entries long

Um... I don't know about you, but personally, I don't want to have to push <enter> some 200 times when collecting lore from the library in the fortress.

What I mean is when you go buy a lore piece from a shop for instance. If you've had it rediscovered in the fortress then the text won't appear - you have to go into the lore menu to read it again. Seems strange to buy it and not read it.

I agree that when the fortress gives you the knowledge again you shouldn't have to read it all.

Ah, I think I misread your post, sorry. But if this change was implemented -- currently the game outright avoids spawning lore you've already found, aside from scripted rooms (shade boss room, for instance) -- should the game spawn lore every level as per normal? One of the joys for me of finding the fortress is not having to wade through lore I've already seen.

I would support instead sorting of the existing lore in your lorebook, if you want to find lore yourself. Having a togglable option to display lore on pickup even if you have it would just be a patch over the horrid organization of lore right now, anyway -- you said so yourself, that's why you want the change.

Couldn't you just ... not use the library?
