Someone mentioned exchanging slings for Crossbows. Not sure if that is what I would prefer: I'd rather have X-Bows as a 3rd ranged weapon, which should need to be reloaded before a second shot - but do considerably more damage (and APR). Rather a second weapon for melee based classes than for an Archer subtype. Stat requirements could go for Str, to actually be able to load the weapon.
So:
1 turn to fire
2 turns to load
==
3 turns per shot - not best for Archers, but good for a melee char as a second option to rush (if prepared).
X-Bows

Re: X-Bows
They would actually make an excellent weapon for archers - as a switch weapon (provided the damage is high enough to warrant the loss of a turn switching) For example on turn one you would fire your crossbow, on turn two you switch weapons, turn three you commence bow attacks until the combat is over, then switch back to the crossbow and spend some turns reloading it.Vee wrote:Someone mentioned exchanging slings for Crossbows. If additional ranged weapon types were added, it would also help to have ranged weapon masteries to be merged as described in my thread http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=23600. This could also open the door to other things, such as perhaps thrown weapons (which might be appropriate if Darkgod implements spears as a melee weapon that can also be used as a projectile and needs to be retrieved) I have to say that thematically throwing a pair of daggers at a foe before closing with longswords has a certain dramatic appeal, and what sort of berzerker would you be witout a nice brace of throwing axes
