Map border visible on map

#1 Post by Mithril »

When you reach the edge of the dungeon map the only thing happening is that you cannot move even if there is no wall blocking you. When you move away the border look like any other unexplored space. It would be nice and help orientation if the border was indicated in some way. Not suggesting that this should occur before you see/magic map/vision the border but afterwards it would be be nice to indicate where the border is in some way.

Personally I think that the edge squares should always be walls. Would require some change to the map generation code though.

I've had the same thought. The maze is actually one of my preferred dungeons, just because it doesn't have paths leading off into empty space.

There are now diggers in the game, though, so the original suggestion that the map border be outlined somehow still strikes me as valid. Or surround maps with hard walls (ala vaults).
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended

Hard walls around the edges is best I think. Finding or making a tunnel into the void both looks odd and interferes with immersion.

Walls will look very strange on some maps like those where a round, big cavern is cut off midway through by the border. Better may be a special border/edge tile or character that is different from anything else.
