One issue with Dexterity granting stealth/invis bonuses. Many classes that value Dexterity do not use stealth or invisibility. It's a very valuable stat on pure warriors like Berserkers or Bulwarks, but they're not stealthy in the slightest.
Perhaps Dexterity could grant evasion? I've never known a class to say no to a chance to dodge attacks completely.

I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

Honestly, I almost didn't make this suggestion because I gave very little thought to what would actually work, I just liked the idea conceptually. I really have no idea what would be optimal but I do know one thing: power creep is a problem.Red wrote:One issue with Dexterity granting stealth/invis bonuses. Thus, there has to be an opportunity cost. If you just give benefits that everyone can benefit from or that are optimal for classes that use the primary stat, then you're just making classes more powerful, which isn't the goal. This would have to be something that would cause a player to invest points in something they might not otherwise… such as a mage trading cunning for dexterity after they've maxed will and magic. There'd have to be something worthwhile in it.
I think ideally, the goal is open up avenues for alternative builds. Right now, stats are automatic. Just invest in your primary stats until they're maxed or close to it and then dump points into constitution or Cunning or whatever. Yes, I'm sure some classes require more care and I'm sure someone is going to immediately dispute my claim (especially if they play on madness or insane a lot) but they're wrong and so I'll pre-empt them. Stat investment is dull and rote.
So, what benefits should the points give? I don't know… I'll just throw it out there and if anyone likes the idea then they can run with it. I'm handing it off, ha ha.
Re: Small Constitution buff
Fair enough. Though actually, Arcane Blades, a starting class, has a lot of different stat options because they can make good use out of almost all of them. That being said, of the classes I've played... Alchemists, Archmages, Bulwarks, Beserkers, Archers, Sun Paladins, Anorthils, and Brawlers all follow the basic pattern you described up there. And if I bothered to actually think hard, I'd probably just end up naming all the other classes too.
However, this feels kinda off topic from Constitution itself. So, yet another thread branching off of this one.
Sage, you had no idea this thread would spark so many ideas, did you?

Shadowblade is a nice class that plays wondefully. I like it how you can progress differently on each stat to give a bit different gameplay experience.
All classes should feel the same.
All classes should feel the same.
Stronk is a potent combatant with a terrifying appearance.
Re: Small Constitution buff
Shadowblade is a great example (kudos to you and Red) of this. I agree 100% that more classes should play like this although I do accept that some classes, especially for beginners, should be simpler.Faeryan wrote:Shadowblade is a nice class that plays wondefully.
