I actually see fitting in Lore as less of an issue. While things need to make thematic sense in the context of the game, there is obviously enough creative people to write in a backstory to make new races fit right in.

A bigger problem I see is how to keep new races distinct from each other - and by this I don't necessarily mean in the context of what exists in the game currently. To give one example - the long mentioned Naga Campaign. When Nagas enter into the game, how will they be made distinct, what size category will they fall into? To give another example - the Trollish Pirates that you encounter in EoR. We already know there are different types of Trolls (it is written into the Lore already) and they certainly aren't 'Small' or 'Medium' sized. There will of course also be other races introduced to the game outside of Naga's and Trolls too.

We might be able to fit these new race ideas in along with the new campaigns, and that is partly why I'm throwing some ideas in here. Maybe the Giant Race could be some form of Giant Sea Creature or Giant Amphibian that aligns itself with the Nagas, and I already noted the idea of the Bugbear teaming up with the Trolls.
