Good suggestions but seeing as how each add-on has to be updated whenever a new version of the game comes out, it's irritating.

I'm just not sure what the reasoning for not having it in the main game is. Is it merely an oversight that was deemed too minor to address given other pressing concerns or was it purposeful?

Yeah, my little improved stores addon adds an 'adventuring supplies' shop with diggers and lanterns. Although it also adds a bunch of other stores and changes inscription generation to force shops to spawn them with egos so it might be a little too many changes for purists. I'd support a baseline lantern store in game.
