Resting to clear talents and wait for recall

#1 Post by Altefcat »

It would be nice if resting could allow you to wait until talents are available, or speed up the recall timing.

Or you could play the game and let it happen naturally.

I'm not sure I understand FM's answer.

This question has been asked continually since the first betas. As far as I know, darkgod does not want people to be able to rest for X turns. Maybe this is to make shop-scumming more painful -- I don't know for sure, but at least it has that effect.

Workarounds are easy if you have talents that use a replenishing resource (stamina or mana, but it only works with mana if you're a mage subclass or you have a mana regen ring, etc.). Use up a bunch of the resource, and then resting will continue until the resource has replenished itself.

It also works using Life as the replenishing resource. Attack yourself (using Shoot, or Shield Pummel, or whatever). Try not to die. Rest until Life is replenished. If the store isn't restocked yet, repeat.

What I mean is, as you play the game [using turns], the cooldowns recover naturally. You don't need to sit there and wait forever to use talents. The longest practical use cooldowns that I see as *need* before a big fight aren't really longer than 40 rounds - and I'm quite sure most characters will be resting far beyond or very near 40 rounds after every significant battle anyway.

If you are speaking of super long cooldowns, like the Snap style ones, or the RoR/Mage Teleport - you don't need those right way; play through the dungeon and it'll be done before you are through with the level more often than not.

Not with the "r" command, they won't. With a regen infusion or two, and possibly healing spells, you can get your Life back pretty quickly -- say, within 20 turns. "r" stops at that point, unless you just happen to have replenishing Stamina or Mana. Not all characters do.

It's not at all uncommon for me to find myself manually hitting "5" a bunch of times after my Life has been restored, to get some talents out of cooldown.

Ugh. The "r" command.

*Getting wailed on by some critter.
*Go to (r)ead a scroll of phase door/teleport.
*Dead.

That one killed a couple of my best games when I first started on Tome 4, prompting me to change the hotkey from (r)est to (n)ap.
