Display creatures

#1 Post by escargot »

This topic got me thinking... the Display creatures (what tab shows you instead of your skill hotkeys) could really be improved and become more useful.

The original Display creatures looks like this, showing only the enemy's name, number (in case of more of the same unit) and distance.

My proposition would be something like this. I removed the distance, since it can be a bit redundant, I'm not really sure if it's really that necessary. The resists could be made with icons instead, green being positive res. and red negative res.
Status could be managed the same way.

I have no idea if this can be implemented. But for now, the Display creatures isn't really useful, personally, I just check it when there are mobs off-screen and I'm too lazy to press the 'l'.

What do you guys think?

Seems interesting, and would definitely be an improvement, I think. The easy listing of resistances would be particularly nice, especially considering it's not uncommon for critters to have slightly randomized resists.

Personally, I wish there was a way to detach that thing from the normal window, kinda' like how T2 had terminal windows. I wouldn't mind doing that to all of those little info things, though... I normally just leave it on the talent cooldown one. Too much hassle to swap back and forth :P

Distance can be useful, for the record, if one is using one of the bigger views. Often one may "see" a monster off-screen and sometimes distance can help one locate which of the red dots it is. Not necessary though, I admit.

What does the "(1)" after a creature mean? That there's 1 of it? Seems a little redundantly redundant...

In the case there are several identical creatures, with different health/status, that you can recognize it. Yeh, it is kinda redundant, I didn't really put much thought into it.

And there's also the fact that maybe the rank column isn't really necessary. You could already tell the rank by the color of the mob's name. Green would be friendly, grey normal, yellow elite, and so on.

There's something else I thought could be useful, maybe each mob could have a hotkey in order of distance, the same way your inventory has it. That way you could activate a skill the autotarget would go to the closest foe but you could autotarget and shoot another enemy with a hotkey. The order they appear can be a little messy, but I think that the use you could give to something like that could be only incidental, in very precise situations.

I'm not sure though. Is the former idea even doable?

yeah, there is a patch to fix that in the modules section if you want to change it.
