New monster idea: stair mold (anti-scummer)
This is a monster living under stairs. If someone uses the stair very frequently within a short time period it will be disturbed by the noise/vibrations and have a continually increasing chance of appearing. It does a high amount of acid and fire damage destroying equipment as well as destroying gold.

Seeing as the opposition you're fleeing from is probably causing enough damage as it is, maybe the stair mold could be a defensive powerhouse instead? Something that'll stop you from using the stairs again for a good number of turns until you've hacked through it.
Or maybe it could cast teleport on you the moment it's spawned...

I was thinking of characters that try to scum in order to get new items on the level. But you are right, a more common situation is character using the stair to get away from monsters in order to rest.Burb Lulls wrote:Fiendish!

Maybe there could be two versions, one that works as you suggested against HP-scummers, and one that works as I suggested against item scummers? One only appears if you are low on HP when repeatedly stair scumming (HP-scummers), the other if new items are created repeatedly by repeatedly stair scumming (item-scummers)?

items should only rejuvenate/change up once every 800 turns which is about what it takes to go from one level to the next, while fully exploring the levels, so I dont really see this as a good workaround.
