Unlocking only affecting current difficulty level or below

#1 Post by Mithril »

Unlockables are a great motivator!

However, currently if you unlock something on the easy difficulty it is also unlocked on all other difficulty levels. Better would be to have unlocking only affect the current difficulty level and below. This way you will still have partial goals to achieve when you increase your difficulty level.

As another point, maybe playing on easy should not allow unlocking at all?

Noooo!!!

Leave it as it is. Don't make it any worse. I personally don't like unlocks as they limit my choices.

But...

would it be possible to modify download page (IP recognition or something like that?), so that if Mithril downloads ToME he gets special masochist version, with unlocks possible only on hardest difficulty level? Of course everybody else gets normal version.

Well, the overwhelming majority seems to like the unlocks so more appropriate would be a special unlocked cheat version for you.

Great idea! Why didn't I think about it?

Now seriously:
Sorry if You felt offended, my comment was supposed to be fun (even if only to me).

Cheat version not required, I manage (although, to my astonishment, tome4 is the first *band in which I don't save-scum).

Hmm, didn't realise that you could unlock things on easy mode. That should maybe be changed.

As for higher difficulties, wouldn't it just discourage people from even bothering to play on them? Unlocking everything all over again is a huge chore, so if I can't play with my favourite race/classes on the higher difficulties I'll just stick with normal.

Personally I don't like the unlocks in general, but I appreciate that some people like them.

You can still not get achievements in easy mode. I think this is a good compromise so the hard classes can eventually get unlocked even by players who stink as bad as I do....

 Of course it isn't.
And also, it isn't a roguelike.
Rather, rogue is a ToMElike.
