This is pretty straightforward. We've got axes, maces, and swords wielded as one handed and two handed and they are all separated out. But staves can only be one handed with an ego, which can make the early game a pain if you're building toward short staves. Why not make these their own separate thing? Guarantee that they can be purchased at staff shops. Maybe start some relevant classes off with one in the inventory, like AB (staff combat unlocked to start would be nice too). And of course, this would stop randart staves purchased from the merchant from being such a gamble.
Speaking of which, it would also be great to get a nice selection of short staff artifacts.

We have the means to change the staff's element. How about adding to it the ability to permanently saw it in half. It would of course reduce the capabilities of the staff. Split the effects between the top and bottom for good measure, if desired. Artifacts should probably resist though, but some unique ones should be balanced if they were made on their own.

At least make it a different shape though. Dual wielding drumsticks is weird.

Re: Legitimize Short Staff
I'd rather they just get nerfed to the ground or removed so AB can get some love haha. But making them distinct from regular staves is still better than the weird limbo they're in right now. Right now they're half a weapon type which is no good. No other weapon type is as dependent on a single ego as staves are on the short ego for some builds.
My wiki page, which contains a guide and resource compilation and class tier list.

I agree with that. Now players only rely on looking at the egos to identify the rare 1 handed. Let the 1 and 2 handed staves be 2 types of items like axes do!bpat wrote:But making them distinct from regular staves is still better than the weird limbo they're in right now.
I still wonder why characters cannot wield ultra light things on offhand - paper shields, orbs, rapiers, etc. And wielding two same things doesn't have any bonuses...
Re: Legitimize Short Staff
Why would you want to offhand a paper shield when you can use a real one???

Lol, it could be a mage who haven't learnt or doesn't bother to learn heavy armor. The shield is cosmetic, funny and doesn't provide many defence function, rather than other things. Kind of like Bikini/Mankini.HousePet wrote:Why would you want to offhand a paper shield when you can use a real one???
