could environmental effects get drawn under characters?
Playing a doombringer, so there's demonfire on the screen a lot. When wretchlings show up en masse and all dump their acid effects on the screen it's damn near impossible to see who's in what square.

That's nothing, when playing cursed, invest in the item curse curse of nightmares and after a few turns in combat the area around you may be a big block of almost solid purple.

Yeah, from as aesthetic view point it would make zero sense but from a clarity viewpoint it would be nice. Demon fire is very fiery and it only takes like 4 wretchlings to start causing a problem.

If we could hide 50% of the particles behind the actor tiles it might be good.

It would still get busy if a lot of different effects are happening, but it might make sense to allow only one layer of each effect on top of avatars to make it clear what's going on and then placing any additional copies underneath.
