I've never been a big fan of the concept of trap choices. There's plenty of good classes in the game that don't have any trap choices - Chronomancers for example. Some choices might be a bit weird/sub-optimal like Spacetime Folding/Gravity vs Attentuate spam, or Hounds vs Warden's Call, but they're not woefully inferior. Might not be the best min/max option, but they offer an alternate, interesting playstyle.
Compare that to some of the talents in older classes. Bulwark's random unlockable 2h and archery trees are pointless. Some talents are just incredibly weak - Onslaught, Battle Shout, Repulsion, Last Stand. And even if those were buffed piecemeal, it still doesn't have the same sort of cohesive, interesting design of newer/reworked stuff.

Re: The Anti-Idea: All classes and races should not be equal
Ideally, all skills should be useful so that there is a big variety of choices that are viable. However, what seems to be more practical is having some skills that are more powerful, and some skills that are not as powerful but are still fun. I don't believe in trap choices - it would be like you are white in chess and black can move their queen as a queen or a knight when it suits them. Who would play white in that case? Ideally, all classes and races should have a variety of ways to play them that are powerful. However, at the very least, they should be fun to play. A game where some choices are neither very powerful, nor okay but still fun, degrades the gaming experience, as the obvious question is: why is it in the game if it is neither powerful nor fun?

Many talents and procs on equipment originate from class categories. Found battle shout on gloves? What does that do? It would be hard to estimate the effect of a proc without the corresponding talent. I agree it's kind of a joke when NPCs that only know archery have no ranged weapon. They are as dangerous as undead wilders.
