Very Rough class brainstorm: Magic-Based Drake User

#1 Post by Chronosplit »

This idea came about between thinking about the new Undead Drake Aspect tree and how an Adventurer would work with a combination of that and Deathknight abilities. What if Wyrmics weren't the only classes that attempt draconic abilities? Better yet, what if demonic experiments tapped into this power using the bones and souls of dragons?

Still brainstorming, some ideas:
-Focuses mostly on Darkness and Blight elements, maybe "Corrupted" Fire and Venom Dragon trees (locked perhaps). Uses Vim and Souls as resources. Main stat suggestions would probably be Magic and Constitution, with maybe a little bit of Cunning.
-Has Undead Drake tree unlocked at start, and is somewhat important to some builds (either that or it has Necrotic Aura by default, the class needs a way to get souls.) Also Nightfall and Blood spell trees.
-Blighted Drake Aspect: revolves around the blood and life force of Dragons.
-Dragon's Mind tree: a Generic tree of passives that revolve around learning draconic aspects like the mindset of one in combat. Cunning required.
-Torment tree is unlocked, Vile Life is a locked tree (a parallel to Wyrmic's locked Harmony tree).
-As Equilibrium isn't involved, not all unique trees follow the same path as Wyrmic. IE none begin with passive stat buffs and not all end with breath weapons.
-Undead dragon welp summoning? Maybe a locked tree?
-Melee is an option but the class is mostly built for casting. Staves are probably ideal.

Vim and Equilibrium are sort of complementary resources (both are hard to regen for different reasons, both are uneffected by fatigue, obviously there's the lore as well), so I've been thinking about whether it would be possible to have a mechanic for converting between them to support class concepts like corrupted wilders.

Thematically it might be interesting if doing so lead to some kind of backlash, but that might be making things more complicated for no real gain.

if you tried to fuse them, pretty sure you would come up with zerg.
