Don't forget dwarven halves and deeprock form or all the hideously expensive sustains that are functionally mutually exclusive even if you could use them together if you had arbitrarily high resource limits.
Digitochracy
n. 1. technocracy. 2. government by the numbers. 3. rule by people with the longest fingers.
Hymns and chants are fixed with Midnight, the Psi shields/auras should most definitely be changed.
Though, what I meant was specifically ones like hymns/chants/shields/auras where you have to put points in them to get to the one you want. Stuff like the t4 cursed talents and shield/dual weapons you can just. Not put points in the one you don't want.
Actually, all of the mindslayer talents (auras, shields, strikes, miscellaneous psychictry) are unique in that you don't need to invest in any of the first three talents except for the ones that you want. They're still unlocked by level, though, so you may not have many places to spend points if you don't like the early options. Not sure if that generalizes to an interesting alternative to the problem, though.
I agree the chants/hymns' exclusivity is rreally bad design. Theres several things making them different than what theyre compared to.
W/sword&board dont require any investment in the other, and have a shitload of different skills supporting them. Thwe choice between them is more like between choosing classes: youre supposed to pick one and stick with it and theres plenty of support for it.
Note that some classes like Cursed can switch quite effectively though.
With the auras and psi shields, they 1. Dont require investing in the others, 2.have distinctly different functions encouraging you to switch (espp the shields), and 3. You can have two of three active at any time. And 4. In many circumstances, aa thermal at 1 will be far more useful than a charged at 5. No chant at 1 will ever be more useful than another at 5.
The difference when it comes to psishields is seen in how people play them: look at mindslater winners and youll see they have more than one point in all of the psi shields. Look at anorithil winners and they have one maxed chant and 0/1 in the others just as prereqs.

Ooh, I wasn't actually aware of that. That does change things at least a little.
