If you are going for a fair comparison, you should probably, in this instance, compare the strongest wilder class (ooze) to the strongest arcane class, which is archmage. Archmage also happens to be the most powerful class in the game.
So no, oozemancer is not stronger than archmage although it is more straightforward to play for a new player, mayhaps.
I would prefer if there were no hard counters the way silence counters spells and disarm counters weapon talents. They make certain opponents disproportionately nasty to some classes which makes balancing the probability distribution of different difficulty enemies impossible without using different frequencies depending on the player's class.
Of course if there were an anti-mindpower equivalent maybe enough people would complain about having their movement and wild infusions shut down that the whole concept would be thrown out.
Digitochracy
n. 1. technocracy. 2. government by the numbers. 3. rule by people with the longest fingers.
Disconnected-a silence equivalent that affects wild gifts. Available probably to Afflicted and Cursed probably, and maybe a weak Arcane version so that way mages finally get a way to counter Zigur patrols.
And perhaps Arcane gear gives a slight mastery penalty to Wild Gift abilities. Nothing major, but I could see a Summoner with full Arcane gear not being as strong as one decked out in nature.
Aneurysm-silence for Psionics. Maybe DoT too, since your brain is bleeding. Could be triggered by powerful physical attacks and mind attacks.
As for gear, maybe warrior's gear gives mastery penalties? Seems a bit stereotyped, dumb brutes aren't the only kind of warriors, but I'm just throwing ideas out and seeing what Darkgod will smile approvingly at and proceed to murder us all with.
I've got nothing to say on the balance issue, though. I'm still trying to beat the game, so hell if I try to talk about balancing it.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.
