UI - Visual duration 'wipe'

#1 Post by AlexMdle »

So I was testing the 1.2 as a Bulwark today. Picked me up some Step Up (Chance to gain 1000% movement speed on kill, for 1 turn).

When Step Up triggered, I noticed something annoying.

Like the tooltip said, that one turn of movement speed lasts several moved tiles, however the buff icon displays '1' the entire time. I could never tell how long it lasts. It doesn't seem to be a point of design to obscure it, you can still calculate how many turns of movement that 1 turn buff will get you, but that's quite tedious.

Instead, why not give certain talents visual wipe effect that shows how much of effect remains?

Observe:

Image: Normal Step Up buff icon. Note that there is no way to tell how long it lasts outside of precalculation. Buff tooltip doesn't tell how many 'turns' of movement you've got left either.

Image: Step Up buff icon with an expiration wipe. Can instantly see that 33% of the effect are gone on this one, the difference in darkened/colored area changed each turn provides a nice mental tool to gauge the effective duration by.

What do you think?

You've got my +1.

Is it only for one-turn-and-below durations, or would every effect talent get a slice of the pie?

Being able to see the fractional amount remaining on some effect would be quite useful.
I'd be happy with just one decimal point.
However, I don't think there is any quick way to get the value.
Should be doable, its just that the function might not exist yet.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.
