I've beaten this with a Doomed and also at least one Paradox Mage. My Doomed abused the hell out of Darkness, Blast and Unseen Force. The DoxMage used a ton of Gravity abilities to shut them down and then teleported like a madman.
I can't imagine doing it with melee.

Re: Orc Ambush
Never experienced that ambush to be that hard. I'd say half my chars pass it. After a few deaths to orcs after killing the boss I decided to first kill the regular orcs leaving the boss last.

Re: Orc Ambush
I generally beat the ambush as long as I have decent mobility- it's things like the dark crypt that get me.
I seem to recall a known bug where dieing after defeating the boss would cause you to lose a life, but I hadn't experienced it myself.

Re: Orc Ambush
I've only gotten there once so far. If I remember right, my Stone Warden opened with Eldrich Slam and... well, it was pretty much just the leader and I on turn two.
Re: Orc Ambush
Iirc it's still present in v. 1.1.5. That's why I'm making extra sure to kill the regular first, though it means I will have to tolerate Ukruk whacking/chasing me for a long time.loimprevisto wrote:I generally beat the ambush as long as I have decent mobility- it's things like the dark crypt that get me.

Usually though if you have decent Def the regular orcs won't hit you, unless for some odd reason you suddenly get lv 50+ orcs, which hastened to me once.

The mechanics are pretty simple: If the orc leader is alive when you run out of health, you don't lose a life. If he's been killed, you die. If you kill them all, he drops an artifact and you get the achievement.
I've beaten it a few times, mostly with area damage characters, but you can increase your odds in melee by backing into a corner and making them attack you in smaller groups at once. Melee orcs will block the archers' firing lines so they're a non-issue until the crowd thins. Mobility skills and movement infusions make this a bit easier. Always kill the leader last. Use regen infusions early.

Re: Orc Ambush
In my experience, it is much, much more difficult with a melee character and movement infusions really help.
Basically, just back into a corner and focus on the regular melee orcs and not Ukruk. Then, when you can, go after the archers and save the boss for last. Saving the boss for last prevents you from losing a life should you fall to the archers or whatnot.
Summoners are easy and the strategy is no different from the rest of the game: Spam your best summons (or anything) over and over. I find Rimebark is fairly useful as well so long as you summon it out of range of you.
Mages, corruptors, and other area-affect casters… it's somewhat easy. Just blast away at all of the regular orcs and orc-archers first, even before you move… just unload some area-affect spells (whether or not you have meta yet) and then teleport away.
I've never made it that far with an archer…
That being said, I rather like the challenge and the achievement. In fact, I'm quite fond of the ambush type events or random events.
